Hotwire Hotel: 3.5* Austin (South-Airport) Hilton

After departing LA - we were unable to return home as the Harlingen airport was closed. Purchased a night (7/26) from Hotwire and ended up staying at the Hilton on 500 East 4th St. Not worth the 84.00 + 11.00 self-parking we paid. After staying at the Hyatt in Orange County (also a 3 1/2*), this hotel was substandard. The front desk clerks were not very helpful in suggesting any dining options, or anything else for that matter. The hotel is only 7 years old, but shows much wear and tear. The exterior, lobby, and pool are nice - but the rooms are severly lacking - they are small and had many, many scuffs on the walls - several broken light fixtures. The furniture was in dire need of replacement - the desk was really beat up. As an added bonus we found an adult magazine in the drawer where the directory was located - thank god my daughter didn't find it! The hotel is located right across the street from the airport in the middle of no where! We ended up renting a car as it was more economical than taking a taxi to the nearest shopping plaza. The amenities are as follows: Restaurant, Fitness Center, Pool, Internet available, near Airport. We were not terribly suprised by the condition of the hotel, as the one located near North Star Mall in San Antonio was until last year in the same substandard condition. Oh well - we were just glad to almost be home.
