poppy9988 Posted July 28, 2008 Report Posted July 28, 2008 HiI'm a newbie, trying Priceline for the 1st time and not having much luck so far.I'm not sure whether it's because it's the first week of the US Open and particularly busy or what, but I can't seem to get 4*, 3* or 2* for $140 in MTE,Times Square or CPS.This is because we want to be close to Grand Central as the 7 train out to the tennis starts there, or we could get one through from Times Square and change at G Central. We do want to stay in Manhattan, as we'll dip in and out of the tennis daily according to who's playing at what times, so will sightsee and shop when not there, so prefer to do it this way around.Anyway, it's for 2 people. I'm not sure whether the prices posted on the winning bids incl. tax or not? If not I may need to raise my bid, as I've bid $140 before tax.Any advice gratefully received please - we're just after the cheapest we can get really!
AaronJB Posted July 28, 2008 Report Posted July 28, 2008 Unfortunately, given the kind of prices that I'm seeing for these dates, $140 isn't going to be enough. What is your per night budget max?
poppy9988 Posted July 28, 2008 Author Report Posted July 28, 2008 Unfortunately, given the kind of prices that I'm seeing for these dates, $140 isn't going to be enough. What is your per night budget max? We'll go up to $170 per night, because we've seen the 2* St James Hotel, which is quite near G Central for $169, so may as well go for that, so I guess we just keep bidding in increments of about $5 dollars a night til we reach our max across all 3 zones and 4*, 3 1/2*, 3* and 2?
thereuare Posted July 28, 2008 Report Posted July 28, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding!...we're just after the cheapest we can get really!I'd advise against this... you really don't want some of the lower rated hotels. I'd recommend sticking with at least 2.5* and higher in NYC.As per AaronJB what is your maximum bid? Is a shared bath an option? (not something i recommend but thought i'd ask... this would be outside of PRICELINE or HOTWIRE)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. AaronJB Posted July 28, 2008 Report Posted July 28, 2008 Uh, I'd look up the St. James Hotel on tripadvisor.com and look at some of the pictures. I wouldn't stay there after seeing some of the pics that people have taken.
poppy9988 Posted July 28, 2008 Author Report Posted July 28, 2008 No, don't want shared bath - that really would be a last resort. $170 max - looking at Empire state zone now,a s the 4,5 & 6 goes into G Central, so looks a possibility. Just don't want to long a transfer to GC as it takes about 35 - 40 mins out to Flushing Meadow.St James reviews look mixed, but on the whole, ok, I thought, esp as in a perfect location for us. Have stayed at the New Yorker 3 times and loved it and that certainly has mixed reviews.
