Shaqdeeez
So I'm trying to head to A.C. for a couple of nights during the week in early August (Wed 8/6 to Friday checkout). Want to gamble almost exclusively at the Taj Mahal. Not interested in much else in A.C. I'm taking the bus there so no car. Would love to stay walking distance to Taj or at least on the Boardwalk within a mile or so. Don't want my hotel price saving going to the taxis.I bid on PL 3 star AC for $35. Got a counter offer for $78. Rebid $40, $45, $50 with no luck.Any ideas on which hotel the the counter offer was for?Am I way off on 3 star weekday hotel rates? Is there a better bidding strategy?Should I try bidding on 2.5 star in Downtown A.C., there doesn't seem to be much info on what those hotels could be either?I'd like to rebid on Monday through the PRICELINE link on you site of course! Any help would be much appreciated. Link to comment
dahammer
please post a conclusion to your Las Vegas trip and then "bump" this thread and we will take a look at your Atlantic City stay. Link to comment
dahammer
thanks for the update to your Las Vegas trip, the JW Resort looks pretty nice, but I can understand wanting to be on the strip or at the Rio....I understand that the Rio has a new pool area :) . Hopefully your bidding history will help others, that's what this board is all about :o With regards to Atlantic City, here are the reported wins from the Better Bidding Priceline Hotel List: 3* Harrahs, 3* Holiday Inn, 3* Sheraton Convention Center, 3* Tropicana. It seems that the Sheraton has more reported wins, and you could probably underbid the counteroffer. HOTWIRE has a 3* for $86 with the following amenities: Near Beach, Casino, Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Hi-Speed Intenret, Business, Golf, Tennis, Spa. These amenities are a match for the Trump Marina, which may be sold to Jimmy Buffet to make a Margaritaville Casino. I'm not sure if there is a shuttle to the other Trump properties, but I would think that The Don would offer one to keep it all in the family :) . You could also take a Jitney from the Marina to Pacific and Virginia Ave.Good luck! Link to comment
Shaqdeeez
Any leads on what hotels are the 2.5 stars offered on PRICELINE? I'd be worried to get the Sheraton as I've stayed there before and it's not really convenient to anywhere I'm interested in going. Had to take taxis everywhere. Also, isn't the Holiday Inn closed now? Didn't it become part of the Chelsea hotel? Link to comment
dahammer
I agree with your comment about the Sheraton, its adjacent to the convention center, but a bit of a walk to the Boardwalk area. I can't comment about the Holiday Inn-Chelsea as no one has posted this as a new topic. My concern about the 2.5* is that you could be upgraded to a 3* and end up with the Sheraton anyway. Atlantic City seems to have many middle of the road properties that would fit the 2.5* description....its either Casino Hotels and the Days Inn, Econo Lodge, Super 8, and Howard Johnsons. However, there is a Marriott Courtyard, but it has not yet been reported. Link to comment
thereuare
The Hotel Chelsea has just been reproted on HOTWIRE and seems to be available for your dates for $99/nite. This appears to be more than you care to spend and a bit further away than you want to be from the Taj, but it may suit your need if you're willing/able to take the jiney up/down Atlantic Avenue. If bidding on PRICELINE i don't there is any way to avoid the Sheraton and i don't think i would lower to 2.5* since i think that would greatly increase your chances of being off the boardwalk and in one of the "lesser" quality hotels scattered throughout the city (which i wouldn't want to be wondering around)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Shaqdeeez
rebid 45, 51, 56, 61 3 star in AC but no luck. Got same counteroffer. i'll try again tomorrow with the chelsea as a backup at $96 on HOTWIRE Link to comment
thereuare
Just be careful using a HOTWIRE hotel as a back-up as that offering can disappear at any time. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Keep us updated. Shaqdeeez
shoot. rebids of $56, 62, 67 & 72 all denied. The counter offer was also up to 90 something dollars. Link to comment
dahammer
is the 4* still available on HOTWIRE for $96? If this is the Chelsea, you will at least be on the Boardwalk checking out the waves rolling in rather than the cars rolling in along the AC Expressway from the Sheraton :) Link to comment
thereuare
at least be on the Boardwalk checking out the waves rolling in rather than the cars rolling in along the AC Expressway from the SheratonAt some point i think spending the extra money ($99 via HOTWIRE) for the 'known' Chelsea and its location would be worth it vs. continuing to bid via PRICELINE and 'risking' the Sheraton... not that the Sheraton is bad, but i'd be willing to pay an extra $20 or so to be on the Boardwalk and be able to walk out the door to be right there on the boardwalk and ocean rather than needing to get (walk or cab for added expense?) to the boardwalk. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you ultimately end up doing for this stay or if we can be of further help. Shaqdeeez
yeah. you guys talked me into it. I booked through the HOTWIRE link here and got the chelsea hotel - 4 stars at $99 a night. Thanks for the help! Link to comment
thereuare
Congratulations on your success!I think this was the right move as being on the boardwalk is much nicer than the "highway" location of the Sheraton.Thank you for sharing your results with the board and for using our HOTWIRE link to begin your purchase.Enjoy your stay. dahammer
don't forget to stop at the White House for one of the best Subs in New Jersey, also, there is a little Italian restaurant called Angelo's that is pretty good and very reasonable, unless you get some comps from Trump!Best of luck to you!
