Guest Pottery Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 I'm seeking a hotel in Puerto Rico July 15-20, 2004. I'm considering two ends of the comfort spectrum.1) A resort hotel - where the resort is the main destination. Would like to snorkel & take SCUBA lessons with a friend.:o I was interested in the Wyndham El Conquistador Resort and Golden Door Spa that I think is in the "Rio Grande - Humacao" Hotwire zone. However, Wyndham says these dates are sold out.So, now I wonder what hotel I'm seeing on Hotwire. I saw one hotel about 1:00 PM today in that zone, it was 4.5*. It was $166. A few hours later, however, again there is one hotel in that zone. It is a 4.5* resort, but the price shows $123. This hotel amenities are listed as: Resort, Beachfront, Casino, Airport Shuttle, Restaurant(s), Pool(s), Fitness Center, Business Center, Golf Nearby, Tennis Nearby, Spa Services. What hotel is this?2) If I can't get a great deal on a resort with a lot to do, then the hotel is not the destination, just a place to sleep. So, price is the major factor, but want to be safe & have good air conditioning in July. :) There is a San Juan area 2* hotel listed for $67. The amenities listed are: Beach Access, Restaurant(s), Complimentary Breakfast, Business Center What hotel is this? :) Thanks for the help.
thereuare Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 The 4.5* hotel that you describe matches the Westin Rio Mar Beach Resort in our HOTWIRE HOTEL LIST for Puerto Rico.I would not recommend a 2* hotel in Puerto Rico. The area is known for high rates and sub-par service so a 2* hotel has a high probability of being a place you would not have picked on your own (and a place you very well may not be happy staying at for 5 nites)Given it's low-season i think there is a decent chance you could get a Resort property (most likely the Wyndham Condado Plaza or the Caribe Hilton... more likely the Condado Plaza) via Priceline for a similar price you're seeing for the Hotwire 2 star. The Condado Plaza hotel gets somewhat mixed reviews (as do most in the San Juan area, as i mentioned above).Have you thought about staying at two different properties during your trip... one 'resort' like and the other to use as a 'base' for sightseeing and other activities. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
