destinationparadise Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 destinationparadise,Please start a NEW TOPIC for your own rental and include how high you have already bid (and when you made your last rejected bid)Oct 16 - Oct 21; $20/day; MIA to FLL; on 7/22 (twice)"Unfortunately, our Name Your Own Price service was unable to locate an available rental car for the area and dates you selected." Is this a common message (and I should keep trying unitl a car is available)? or does it mean the one-way transfer is not possible? It didn't give me the option to bid again.
destinationparadise Posted July 23, 2008 Author Report Posted July 23, 2008 Nevermind. I guess this is the normal, your-price-has-been-rejected error.
thereuare Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 What car class are you bidding on and what is the best rate available thru the Car Rental Checker for this rental? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
destinationparadise Posted July 23, 2008 Author Report Posted July 23, 2008 I tried again today, standard and SUV for $15--- and am now getting a "bid not accepted" message, which is what I would expect. I tried Econ, Comp yesterday and got that other message. The cheapest econ is around $300 total or $52 day on the website; with a coupon code, around $250 with tax and all. Although, priceline has a "recent winning bids" page that states $12-$15 day in Miami. :)
thereuare Posted July 24, 2008 Report Posted July 24, 2008 The $12-$15/day in Miami are for same pick-up and drop-off location... it's probably not realistic to use that as the basis of your bid. With the coupon code what is the best base fare you're able to find for this rental? destinationparadise Posted July 24, 2008 Author Report Posted July 24, 2008 $43/day ECON or COMP with coupon but before fees. 4.5 day rental.
thereuare Posted July 24, 2008 Report Posted July 24, 2008 There is a pretty WIDE gap between your bid price ($15) and the best rate you're able to get elsewhere ($43)... and note that the rate for the $43/day car is less than the car class you're bidding.Deals for car rentals can be had, but you have to realize that this is a one-way rental which probably limits the availability somewhat, and bidding a third of your next best deal does give you great odds for success. destinationparadise Posted July 24, 2008 Author Report Posted July 24, 2008 Yes, I understand that and I still have plenty of time. I just found it odd that when searching for certain classes-- such as econ, compact, SUV -- I am not able to get an expected response. (Eg. "Your bid was accepted" or "Your bid was declined", "Do you want to try again?") I was more interested in finding out what the "Unfortunately, our Name Your Own Price service was unable to locate an available rental car for the area and dates you selected." message meant when posting in this forum than the value of my bid. It was only when I tried the minivan and full-size, I think, where I got the "you've been declined" message-- unlike all the other classes I tried. So, maybe only the lesser rented car classes are available for one-way search??? (Not sure what is the most/least popular) Any ideas why the messages would differ?
