tuddi Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 Hello,Am going to NYC on 27th July - check out on 2nd August. Would like to stay in a decent hotel in Manhattan areas.Tried to bid for TS, MTE and MTW 4* AND 3.5* for upto $140 - no luck. Was hoping to get The Barclay - Intercontinental (there were a couple of winning bids on this hotel for the same dates).Any ideas on how I can bid for a good hotel? Does time, day etc. matter? Will truly appreciate your help.RegardsTuddi
thereuare Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding!Tried to bid for TS, MTE and MTW 4* AND 3.5* for upto $140 - no luckIs there a reason you're not including the CPS or ESB zone(s) in your bidding? Are there hotels there you're trying to avoid or do these zone(s) not work well for your needs (they're considered convenient by most travellers)As PRICELINE doesn't offer a 3.5* rating... was it actually a 3* that you bid on?What is your maximum bid for this stay? Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. tuddi Posted July 23, 2008 Author Report Posted July 23, 2008 No, there are no reasons for excluding the zones you mentioned above. I am not familiar with New York so I just assumed that they may be further out. I am open to including those zones.Yes it was 3 star not 3.5 star - my mistake.Maximum bid is about $150 - I can stretch if I absolutely have to.Thank you.
thereuare Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option?I think this may be a tough win at $150 or under... do you have a current back-up plan? If you're not successful with PRICELINE or HOTWIRE where will you stay? (and how much)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. tuddi Posted July 23, 2008 Author Report Posted July 23, 2008 Splitting is definitely an option.Back up plan is to stay at the hostel. Want to avoid it as much as possible.I can raise my bid to higher amounts if I need to. I thought that it was possible to win a bid at $140 like the people who won the Barclay hotel for the same dates as me.Thanks.PS Hostel is at about $100 or so a night.
thereuare Posted July 24, 2008 Report Posted July 24, 2008 I thought that it was possible to win a bid at $140 like the people who won the Barclay hotel for the same dates as me.It is possible, but rates change all the time, and you have already bid up to $140 in the MTE zone, so this rate isn't avaialble anymore for your complete stay. With only a few days before your stay i'd like to get started with a bidding strategy but need a little more info to move forward...-do you want to try for a 4* up to your limit before lowering to a 3* OR are you looking for the least expensive 3* or better hotel for this stay?-if trying for a 4* first and are unsuccessful, do you then wish to try for a 3* for your complete stay or contiuing to try for a 4* by splitting the stay-if bidding 3* there are more zones avaiable then just the ones you have aleady bid, is any midtown zone acceptable (NOTE: a few hotels, such as the Millenium UN as just one example, is about a 10+ minute walk to the subway, woudl this be an acceptable outcome?)-how high are you willing to bid before splitting the bid (you mention raising your bid amounts if you have to... or is $150 your maximum at this point)Let us know the above and we should be ready to move forward. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. tuddi Posted July 24, 2008 Author Report Posted July 24, 2008 Here are my answers:- Yes, I want to try for a 4* to the limit before going to 3*. However, I am ok with 3* options as well if I can get for lower price.- Splitting is an option too for 4 * - if I can get 4* so much the better - why not.- Midtown zones are acceptable as long as they are central and in reasonably good areas with some life in them- The ultimate maximum I am willing to bid is upto $200 and no more than that. I would prefer to stay within the range of $150 - $175I am flexible with areas and between 4* and 3* (4* is preferrable) and if I can get a lower rate then great!I did not place any bids yesterday - so I presume I can bid again for MTE zone?
thereuare Posted July 24, 2008 Report Posted July 24, 2008 Midtown zones are acceptable as long as they are central and in reasonably good areas with some life in themThe MTE zone, which you have already been bidding can get a little quiet ('NYC quiet... meaning there are people/cars on the streets, but hardely the hussle and bussle of Times Square or the East/West Village). Since you have already bid this zone i'm assuming this is fine with you (and i think it will be) but just making sure you know the areas you've chosen.Assuming you want to move forward for MTE, MTW, TS, CPS and ESB at the 4* level, i'm still not clear if you want to go up to $175 or $200, so the following goes up to $200 and you can stop at whatever level you choose. At the 4* level you have SIX re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 4* MTE, MTW, TS, CPS and ESB (if any of these zones are unacceptable you can exlude it from this round and subsequent rounds of bidding)...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, TS, CPS and ESB and re-bid zone5...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, TS, CPS and ESB and re-bid zone6...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone5...Bid $200Any questions feel free to ask. If the above is rejected let us know at what point you stopped (bid amount) and we'll revise to take the next step (which you will be able to do without waiting 24 hours)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. tuddi Posted July 26, 2008 Author Report Posted July 26, 2008 Hello,I tried a similar strategy with 3 star up to $150 - no luck.I am game to split the bid for 4 star. Will appreciate your guidance on splitting the bidsThanks.
thereuare Posted July 26, 2008 Report Posted July 26, 2008 You can repeat the following (stopping at whatever level you like):Select 4* MTE, MTW, TS, CPS and ESB (if any of these zones are unacceptable you can exlude it from this round and subsequent rounds of bidding)...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, TS, CPS and ESB and re-bid zone5...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, TS, CPS and ESB and re-bid zone6...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone5...Bid $200using the following date combinations...7/27-8/2 (already bid)7/27-8/17/28-8/27/27-7/317/29-8/27/27-7/307/30-8/2Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. tuddi Posted July 26, 2008 Author Report Posted July 26, 2008 Ok went through all the splits - went up to $185 in some splits.Have started working on the same splits with 3* - system is rather slow and keeps delaying me every time for 15 mins. Will try again tomorrow morning. Will keep you posted. Any other ideas will be appreciated. As the time is getting closer, I may have to book a hostel. Thanks and have a good evening.
thereuare Posted July 26, 2008 Report Posted July 26, 2008 One option is to stay at a hostel for half your stay, then take the money saved and use it to increase your bid for the balance of your stay.
