bond316 Posted July 21, 2008 Report Posted July 21, 2008 Hi guys, I'm looking to stay in the 4* Millennium Hilton in the Downtown - SoHo - Financial District area checking in 8/22 and checking out 8/24 (2 nights). I started the bidding at $125 and was denied, at what price do you think I can get each night for? I was looking to spend $300 for both nights after tax, but that might not happen...Advice is appreciated, thanks.
bond316 Posted July 22, 2008 Author Report Posted July 22, 2008 nothing to help out a new guy bump :)
AaronJB Posted July 22, 2008 Report Posted July 22, 2008 Welcome to the site :)Sorry this thread wasn't gotten to earlier, but there are a small group of people who help on this site and sometimes we may need a little more time than usual to get to each thread.Given the fact that the Millennium Hilton is $269, the Embassy is $264, I would recommend bidding for a 4* in this area up to $150 and then stopping there if nothing is accepted. I would also recommend bidding by $5's - next try is $130, $135, etc.Given that the 3* Club Quarters is $205, if you don't mind dropping your bidding from 4* to 3*, your current $125 bid *may* be enough to snag the CQ.You do have some time though and, unless there's something going on in the city at this time I'm not aware of, this is one of the slower periods of the year. Keep trying and don't go very high at this point - keep in mind the fact that 3* prices are around $200 and 4* around $250-260.Additionally, do you need to focus only on this area? I ask because if you're coming to the city as a tourist, this is definitely not the most centrally located area. Please use the site's links to HOTWIRE or PRICELINE to start your purchases and again, sorry this thread wasn't updated sooner.
sophialucas Posted July 22, 2008 Report Posted July 22, 2008 Hi there, I just bidded less than 24 hours ago for 3 nights from 22-25 August, Downtown/Soho hoping for the Millenium on Priceline. I started at $125 (in $5 increments) and was accepted at $160 for the Millenium. Hope this helps!
bond316 Posted July 23, 2008 Author Report Posted July 23, 2008 yeah $160 seems to be the sweet spot for the millennium, I got it for $160 a few months back also. Should I still try from 125 increasing in $5 increments?I have been to NYC before and I like the bang for my buck at the millennium.I will use the links you guys provide when trying to book.
thereuare Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 Do you want to stay Downtown (is this your prefered zone) or were you searching there thinking it would be the least expensive and offer the best value? If you could get a 4* hotel for less in midtown would that be more appealing... or are you trying to stay downtown? bond316 Posted July 24, 2008 Author Report Posted July 24, 2008 Great question, I would actually like to maximize stars and pay the least. So if a 4* or 5* in Midtown is cheaper then that would be fine too. Suggestions?
thereuare Posted July 25, 2008 Report Posted July 25, 2008 I would actually like to maximize stars and pay the least.I don't understand your answer...Let me try to rephrase...Four stars is the highest star rating currently offered in Manhattan thru PRICELINE. Are you looking for the least expensive 4* hotel in Manhattan? If so are MTE, MTW, TS, CPS, ESB, and Downtown all equally acceptable? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. bond316 Posted July 25, 2008 Author Report Posted July 25, 2008 I thought the Waldorf Towers in Midtown East - Grand Central was a 5* hotel.Yes basically a 4* hotel in MTE, MTW, TS, WS, etc. Just want to say away from Upper Manhattan, everything else should be fine
thereuare Posted July 26, 2008 Report Posted July 26, 2008 I thought the Waldorf Towers in Midtown East - Grand Central was a 5* hotel. If you place a checkmark next to the MTE zone on PRICELINE you'll see that there is no 5* bidding offered in this zone. (so either the hotel has been downgraded or is no longer participating)I'm not clear on your maximum bid, so i'll go up to $200 and you can stop at whatever level you'd like:At the 4* level you have six re-bid zones available. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 4* MTE, MTW, TS, CPS, ESB, and Downtown (if any of these are unacceptable then you can exclude it)...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE.Select 4* MTE, MTW, TS, CPS, ESB, and Downtown and re-bid zone5...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE.Select 4* MTE, MTW, TS, CPS, ESB, and Downtown and re-bid zone6...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone5...Bid $200.Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. bond316 Posted July 27, 2008 Author Report Posted July 27, 2008 I bid up to $170 and no luck. Should I try to bid 1 night at a time instead of 2 nights, would that help? After taxes its already up to $404 after taxes...I really wanted to spend no more than $400.
bond316 Posted July 27, 2008 Author Report Posted July 27, 2008 Just got a room for 2 nights (8/22-8/24) at the Millenium Hilton for $175 per night...Total Charges $416.69I personally thought I would get a better deal, but it is what it is. Thanks for the help everyone.
thereuare Posted July 28, 2008 Report Posted July 28, 2008 Congratulations on your win!It is a savings of $50+ per nite so certainly not a bad deal... and you know that $170 wasn't enough for these dates based upon your previously rejected bid. Thanks for sharing your results with the board. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay.
