lwt Posted July 16, 2008 Report Posted July 16, 2008 I've made several attempts on Priceline to get a 4* hotel (9/4-9/7) in CPS, MTW, MTE, TS, and I've bid as high as $225/nt....no luck, even as I incrementally increase my bid while adding zones. I've also tried choosing areas that did not have 4*hotels to increase my chances. Is there anything going on that weekend? Should I be bidding closer to $250?Thanks
thereuare Posted July 16, 2008 Report Posted July 16, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding!September starts the "Fall Season" in NYC and hotels get expensive, however, this is the 'start' of the season (which is a moving target) and i dont' think i'd be inclined to lock-in a non-refundable reservation this far ahead of your stay at $225+.I would sooner book a refudnable back-up (the Beekman Tower is a little far east (10-15 minute walk to the subway) but can be booked thru Quikbook for $211/nite, the reviews are good, and it's cancellable up until a few days before your stay). I would book this (please use our Quickbook link) or some other refundable rate (use our BetterChecker to assist in your rate search) and then continue to try PRICELINE and HOTWIRE as your dates approach in order to better the deal.Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. lwt Posted July 16, 2008 Author Report Posted July 16, 2008 Thanks. I'll give it a week or so and try again. In the meantime I'll look into booking something refundable. I'll keep you posted....
lwt Posted July 21, 2008 Author Report Posted July 21, 2008 I was bidding up to $240/nt for a 4* in MTW, MTE, CPS, TS, ESB for 9/4-9/7 with no luck. It looked like others were bidding more than $260/nt with no luck. Frustrated, I decided to look at certain 3* hotels. I decided there were areas that I wouldn't mind staying in a 3* given the chance for a nicer 3* (MTW, MTE). I also noticed the prices of these going up quickly, so I thought I better act fast - and take a chance. I ended up bidding $165 (1st offer, accepted) and got Club Quarters in Midtown. Maybe I should have lowered my first bid, but since I was only planning on bidding 3* in 2 areas, I didn't want to risk rejection. Looks nice - upscale but small. Hotel looks like it's in a great location, plus I saved between $50-$100/nt compared to if Priceline had accepted one of my 4* bids. Looks like there are some pretty nice 3* hotels out there.....
