Hi All,

Complete and utter beginner here so be gentle!

I'll start with what I'm looking for and hope you kind folks can shove me in the right direction.

Would you be against switching hotels? 7 days back-to-back during a busy time in NYC is going to make things difficult and you may have a better chance at success if, for example, you stay 4 days at one hotel and 3 at another or some similar combination.

Thanks AaronJB, probably not if I'm honest. We're coming from the Isle of Man in the UK so we don't really want to switch hotels due to the hassle of uprooting. Plus given the length of time it takes my girlfriend to pack we would lose 2 days of our trip!

Kind Regards

Welcome to BetterBidding!

At the 4* level most are comfortable with the MTE, MTW, CPS, and Times Square zones... some also choose the Empire State Buidling too (especially on dificult/high priced stay...which i think this one is likley to be). Rates are quite high and i think a 4* within your budget (which is about $220/nite before fees and taxes) may be difficult for these dates.

Let us know which zone(s) you're willing to accept and we'll advise accordingly and take it from there.

Thanks all.

Zones wise I have nailed it down to the folllowing(in order of preference):

1.Midtown West

2.Midtown East

3. Madison Square Garden (although this would have to be 3* as no 4* availible?)

4. Empire State and Central Park South

I'm going to have my first punt this evening (using the PRICELINE link of course :) ). Based on research I am going to kick off at $200 per night and work through the zones and increase the bids to $230. How does that sound?

Although i think your chances of success are low, i would start lower than $200... sometimes you get lucky and are able to catch a hotel that for one reason or another has low occupancy this far out and offers a deeper than expected discount to the opaque suppliers.

In regards to your zone preferences above, is price or zone more important? Did you want to try up to your limit for the MTW zone first before then trying up to your limit for the MTE zone and so-on and so-on... or is price more important and you'd like the least expensive hotel in any of the zones above?

Let us know and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

Hi price is definately more important and we would be happy enough in any of the above zones.

Just a quick note I am registered on the Priceline UK site and when I click on your link(s) I get sent to the .com US site, which doesn't recognise my login so you miss out on any affliate bonus as I have login via .co.uk.

Have you a different link I can use?

When you have named your price and get to the credit card page follow the "already have an account link" there and you should be able to login ok. I can login using my .co.uk account there and bid in dollars.
