Icebrg Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 I never tried PRICELINE before so I made sure to check out this site before I bid. Thanks for all the great tips! I checked the most recent bids in the Chicago (Illinois) forum, checked the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins, and checked out HOTWIRE.I tried to get a NMA hotel and was unsuccessful at my bid prices. My bids were:NMA 4* - $80. rejectedNMA + Lincoln Park(dummy zone) 4* - $90. rejectedNMA + Lincoln Park + Skokie 4* - 100. rejected. Priceline came back with an offer for me raise my bid by $22. for a bid of $122. to be successful which was too high for me.So I switched to Millenium-Loop-Grant Park.My bids were:MLGP 4* - $70. rejectedMLGP + Lincoln Park 4* - $80. rejected. MLGP + Lincoln Park + Skokie 4* - $85. rejected. At this point Priceline came back with an offer for me to raise my bid by $22., or $107. to be accepted which I did NOT do.MLGP + Lincoln Park + Skokie + Midway 4* - $90. ACCEPTED!By not accepting their offer of $107. I saved $17./night. I've read good and bad reviews of Palmer House at Trip Advisor. I stayed there several years ago and it was pretty nice. I'm happy with the location and price. Next step is finding parking. I used to live in Chicago and know a few tricks. I usually park my car in a nice north side neighborhood and get around by El until I need to drive somewhere. I lived in Lakeview (Addison and Greenview) which is a nice neighborhood so I like to park around there although they have expanded the "Resident Parking Only" area in the last year. It's a little inconvenient to drive up there and park and then take the El dontown but it beats paying for parking IMO. Anyone have any other tips for decent parking in the downtown area?
thereuare Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 Congratulations on your win!Thank you for sharing your results with the board. Can you please add the dates of your stay to this thread so that we can add this information to the topic title and enable this thread to appear in the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins. While some of the reviews are mixed, i'd bet many of the negative reviews were from those paying rack rate... for $90 i'm sure i'll get your money's worth. Glad to hear the board was helpful in your purchase. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay.
