Priceline Hotel: Las Vegas hotels

I'm new to this, so I hope I'm posting my question in the right place. I will be going to Las Vegas from 10/10-10/13 with a group of friends. Ideally we would like to stay in the center of the strip. How would we go about bidding for a nice hotel in that location and what should our bidding start at? Thanks

Thanks so much for replying! There will be 8 ladies going for my sister's bachelorette party. So we will need 2 rooms. Also any suggestions for specials on bachelorette packages?

PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy... after that it's at the discretion of the hotel. It is possible that the hotel only gives you, or only has available at the time you check-in, rooms with one bed, and they would be fufilling their end of the agreement.

As well, if a room with two beds is available, the hotel could charge you extra for more than double occupancy.

HOTWIRE is usually a little cheaper than PRICELINE, but HOTWIRE allows you to search for up to quad occupancy (and this also often increases the price too vs. searching for double occupancy)

As well, there are some hotels in PRICELINE's Strip zones which are close, but not directly on the strip (Westin and Trump International as two examples)... would these be acceptable outcomes?

There are hotels via HOTWIRE that may be slightyl off strip too, but with HOTWIRE you have the ability to try to take an educated guess and identify the property before your purchase, having a decent idea if the property is on the strip, and if so, where on the strip it is located.

Let us know your thoughts regarding the above and we'll advise accordingly.

What is your budget (per nite per room before taxes and fees) for this stay?

Ideally we would like to stay in the center of the strip and the budget of $200/night would be great for a 4* or 5* hotel. I don't know if that is possible. My husband and I actually used PRICELINE for the first time last month for our stay in San Francisco. We were able to stay at Hyatt for $130/night at Fisherman's Warf. So that worked out really well. I am hoping for the same outcome in Vegas, but I've noticed that the star ratings are so broad from one hotel to the next in Vegas.

Also, when is the best time to bid for our stay in October. Will there be better deals closer to the travel date?

Ok, I was wrong about our budget after talking to my friends. Our budget is $150/ night. I was reading some of the other posts and it looks like there were a few bids in the low $100s for a 5* hotel with Venetian being offered! The only drawback is that we need 2 rooms with 2 beds. Would it be better for us to bid separately 1 room at a time? Also, how far is Trump International and Westin? Would it be a quick walk to the strip? That would be fine if we could walk to the strip. By the way, I'm finding this website really helpful and I'm glad I was introduced to it! Thanks!!

It would be appreciated if you shared the details of your win with the board as a NEW TOPIC in the Priceline San Francisco section of the board... i'm sure others will be able to benefit from the information.

At least at the Venetian all rooms have a pull-out sofa, so perhaps this would work for you at the 'second bed', but with hotel direct rates at $259/nite i'm doubtful that $150 will be enough for this property on your dates.

If you bid separately you run the additional risk of getting two different hotels, but this won't change the risk you're taking regarding needing quad occupancy and PRICELINE only guaranteeing double occupancy... is this just a risk you're willing to take?

I think most find the Trump and Westin walkable, but a few complain of the distance, and as you're booking for others, you need to let them know about these hotels as possibilities and let them share in the decision making. Keep in mind the Westin also charges a "resort fee" so you need to consider this if your budget is very firm.

I do see on HOTWIRE what i believe is the Flamingo within your budget and you can work it to ensure quad occupancy, but this isn't a 4* hotel... although it does have a great strip location and an excellent pool area (although families like this place too due to the pool so expect some kids around too)
