Can anyone help with the name of this hotel that has showed up on Hotwire with the following icons?

Suite, casino, restaurant, pool, fitness, business and laundry.

I am looking for August and it is showing up for $62 which I thought seemed a good buy? Have no idea which hotel it could be though.

Thanks

Thanks for the prompt reply. The dates are 4th to 8th August. I originally thought the Embassy Suites and they had forgotten the breakfast icon, but too many of the icons are different. I then wondered if it was the Marriott Suites (convention centre - from looking at the Priceline hotels) but I don't think they have a casino, so am no closer.

I'm going to guess the Tuscany Suites and Casino.

Have you ever been to Vegas before? If not, i would reconsider your location choice and stay on the strip.

If budget is a concern, would you consider splitting up your dates (and changing hotels?) for the first 2 nites and then the last 2 nites? I think you could come close to this price staying directly on the strip for the Wed/Thur nites. On Fri/Sat all rates in Vegas double or triple so it will be tougher to get this low rate... but it seems available thru Hotwire on your last 2 nites for about $68/nite and i would sooner split my stay then stay off strip the entire 4 nites (IMO).

Feel free to give us your thoughts and the 'purpose' of this trip (vacation, gamble, sightsee, relax, etc) and we should be able to better help on what might type of property/location is most appropriate.

PS- did you ever finalize your plans for Florida (which appear to be where you will head after Vegas)

Thanks for all your help. You have given me a lot to think about! Yes, I have been to Vegas thre times before and stayed in the Hacienda twice (now gone of course) and the Excalibur. We are coming to sightsee (and bringing the children for the first time - 7 and 10) and yes, budget is an issue. We are flying in from London so with the 8 hour time difference, I doubt we will want to do much the first day at least so maybe you are right about staying on the strip. We are then going to LA for about 5 days (I have been looking at "possibly" the Staybridge Suites on Hotwire but they seem to have disappeared for the moment), then up to San Francisco, onto Seattle and then a cruise on Diamond Princess to Alaska. I don't know where you got Florida from - but we did go there in November last year, so maybe you are looking at an old post or maybe it was the reference to Disney?

I have only used Hotwire once so far and with this boards help, I have got Embassy Suites at San Francisco Airport for $70 and I am very pleased with that choice. The free breakfast played a part in choosing that. We have stayed at La Quinta in the past so are aware of the distance between the Airport and San Francisco itself.

In Vegas, I have held rooms at Keylargo (Quality Inn) as they offer a free shuttle from the Airport and then to the Strip but I am now swaying towards the Strip after your comments. Also, a room opening directly to the outside in August might prove a bit too hot for us - we might want to stay in the airconditioning as much as possible! Therre is a 3* on the strip for $66 with casino, restaurant and pool - any ideas? With two children and luggage for a month we would not want to swap hotels after two nights!

We will want to sightsee and shop - and pool for the children in the early morning and evening when no direct sun. Not interested in gambling. Tuscany Suites looks good for four and the pool looks lovely - but no shuttle. The other hotel I would possibly like is the Orleans (shuttle to Strip) as it looks good for children) but again the weekend is dear. That is easily identifiable by the childrens facilities icon. May try Priceline. The Westin (I think) came up when I first started looking for under $70 - wish I had taken it.

Thanks again for your interest and will no doubt bee seeking you advice about LA, Seattle or Vancouver!

You may want to re-consider splitting the dates as you could likely get a very inexpensive deal for Wed/Thur nites which would leave more for your budget on Fri/Sat nites... but you know your kids and your family better than i do!

For your 4 nites thru QuikBook i did find some decent deals. The Tropicana for $347 (do not book the Garden Rooms... stick with the 'tower' accomodations) which is an older hotel but long-ago had one of the nicest pools in Vegas before all the mega-resorts starting coming along. I still can't get the negative impressions of the Imperial Palace out of my mind although i hear it has improved somewhatt in the last few years (all the reveiws used to be negative... now only half of them are :) ) but at only $252 it may be worthwhile as the location is fantastic. These are pre-pay rates and i believe come with a $10 cancellation fee, but since if you find a better deal the ultimate cost is only $2.50/nite it may not be that bad of a back-up option.

Given your scenario i would think the Flamingo would be a great choice as they have an excellent location, a great pool area, and usually have some good deals... but unfortunately don't currently show anything worthwhile for your dates.

I don't know the identity of that 3* hotel but be careful of that star rating on the strip... it may very well be the strip according to Hotwire's map but it's not the strip by most people's definition. You really want to be located between the "Four Corners" (Tropicana, Excalibur, MGM, NYNY) and Treasure Island.... anything else will require transportation costs to get the 'true' part of the strip.

If you get the Westin there could be a problem with enough room for everyone in your party to sleep if you don"t get two beds, as the rooms are very small. Its a very nice room with-in walking distance to the strip.

You might be real unhappy with the 3*s that come up on the strip, theres some not so nice hotels that come up.

Your going to like the ES in SF,are you staying at the south location in Burlingame? Both locations are nice, but I like the Burlingame location best.It sits right on the water front and has free parking. You will be very happy with that hotel.

Thank you everyone for your interest and your replies. Yes, it is the Burlingame location in San Francisco that we have booked - looks lovely.

I am glad that you made the comment about the garden rooms at the Tropicana as I have been looking at thoses. Are they not nice rooms? The pool complex looks gorgeous. Can you get into the pool area without being a guest at that hotel? Had a look at Quikbook and saw some options that I hadn't considered. The Hawthorn Suites are only behind the Tropicana and they offer breakfast and drinks in the evening - plus the cheapest prices for that hotel that I have found. Also, kitchen facilities and only $10 cancellation like you said. So, thanks for your help.

bbbb.... thanks for asking so i didn't have to :)

jones721, the Garden Rooms are not worth the money and one of the towers is usually available for a $10 or less upgrade per nite. The Garden rooms are old and drab.

QUIKBOOK is great in some cities (Vegas being one of them) but not competitive in others.

Jones721,did you buy the SF Embassy suites on Hotwire? If you did can you please post your info for this hotel with your dates.

Will do.

Got the Hyatt Regency in Anaheim with Priceline for $35. Guess I have overpaid when looking at other posts, but it was the first time I had got anything so I didn't mind! I just tried it as an afterthought last night not expecting it to come back accepted. Will have to look into this bidding in more detail. I notice now that others have got it for $28 - but although it has mixed reviews, I think that it is good value. Also, thereuare, you said about bidding via someone? Don't understand this - can you send me the details please. I know this is the wrong section for Anaheim but it was just that everyone was so helpful and thought I would let you know here.

It was interesting as I bid from the UK and with the Anaheim hotel it kept returning the message to re-enter credit card details. Obviously was trying to match up my card and billing address, not rejecting my offer. Had I realised I should have then started again and bid less!!

thereuare,

Took your advice and booked something closer to the Strip through QUIKBOOK. Hawthorn Suites, 5 mins walk from back door of MGM (I know that area pretty well) where we get a kitchenette, breakfast and drinks (and light meal Weds) in the evening. When you have to feed four away from home for a month it adds up so the breakfast was the deciding factor really. Quickbook was $10 cheaper per night than the cheapest other company I could find.

Thanks

thereuare,

The rate for the Hawthorn Suites is $306 ($68 and $72) and $10 cancellation fee. The rreports on tripadvisor.com are not very complimentary about this hotel - but I know it is subjective and we won't spend much time in the hotel itself.

Another hotel has shown up on Hotwire for $256 for the stay but I think it is the Stratosphere - too far down the Strip. The prices for most hotels seem to have fallen for those dates.

For an extra $65 i would go with the Flamingo (just my opinion, i never tell anyone else how they should spend their money... not even at the Blackjack table if they want to split 10s :) ).

The Flamingo doesn't include breakfast but food in Vegas is cheap enough... many usually get a late breakfast/early lunch at a buffet and eat enough to last until dinner. Some hotels also will let you enter right before the breakfast to lunch switch.. essentially letting you enter at the breakfast rate and eat lunch (confirm their policy before doing this though, as some hotels have a 'break' between meals and don't let you stay... others just replace the scrambled egg tray with a hot turkey tray when the time comes). There will be enough 2 for 1 coupons around for the buffet if you just take every handout given to you on the trip or look in the 'free' magazines in each hotel's lobby. Do go downtown one nite (take the express bus, not the local, for about $2.25/pp and food is even cheaper down there... .99 shrimp cocktail, $3 lunches, $1 hot dogs, etc... eat dinner there one nite to save on expenses and then stay so the kids can see the Freemont Street Experience).

Back to the Flamingo.... since you're traveling with kids the location can't be beat! It's center strip and you can walk in either direction on any given day. If one of the kid needs a break the hotel will never be too far away. Then there's the pool... for one of the older hotels the pool area is magnificent... not to mention the live flamingos and penguins on the property. This hotel has also been around since before the 'mega-resorts' came into play and therefore would also be a bit more family friendly than some of the newer properties.

If you haven't seen it already you may also be interested in this thread which i had put together for my sister a few years back: CHEAP and FREE THINGS TO DO IN LAS VEGAS.

Thanks for all the information and the advice. I did look into the options but I think we will stay put where we are, unless a very good deal shows up in the meantime. The $306 included all taxes and with a breakfast included, we will probably then eat late afternoon at a buffet place and then a snack in the evening. There is a hotel showing up (I asked above) and I notice that someone else has posted this as a new topic, 3.5star, resort, suite. That may be an option nearer the time, would still like to know the name of that ($284 for the stay). But I thought, how much time will we actually spend in the hotel room anyway, even if it isn't all that nice? Probably for eating sleeping and changing. So, for now it will do. Incidentally, there is a good UK site, www.midashotels.com that I sometimes book through and occasionally works out far cheaper than the US sites. Eg two nights in the Aladdin, Luxor or Monte Carlo for the Weds Thurs was between
