dear Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 I will be travelling from Aug 13th to 17th. Rack rates are $219 per night. I'd like to keep it under $100, with a maximum bid of $120. Price > location, so the cheapest hotel in any of zones USE/USW/Fisherman's Wharf. What's a recommended bid strategy? Thanks in advance!
thereuare Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 At the 4* level you have four re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* USE and USW...Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $80, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Fishermans Wharf...Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $80, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* USE and USW and Fishermans Wharf...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105The above may likey be too low for these dates at this time, but i would start with the above in an attempt to lowball. dear Posted July 9, 2008 Author Report Posted July 9, 2008 Thanks for your reply! I've tried your above strategy but they were all unfortunately rejected. I can go for a 3* hotel. Would you recommend that I follow the above strategy once again with 3*, using the same prices? If I decide to try again for a 4*, what should be my next step, if my maximum bid is $120?
thereuare Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 You can't follow the same approach for a 3* hotel as you don't have as many re-bid zones available.Let us know once you decide if you'd like to try for a 3* property (same maximum bid??) or try again for a 4* hotel up to $120 and we'll suggest a strategy to follow. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. dear Posted July 10, 2008 Author Report Posted July 10, 2008 I've decided to try for a 3* hotel in the same zones with a maximum bid of $100 for now.
thereuare Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 In San Francisco at the 3* level you have two re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3* USE...Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $70, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* USW...Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $70, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* Fishermans Wharf...Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $70, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* USE and USW...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* USE and Fishermans Wharf...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* USE and USW and Fishermans Wharf...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes.PS- before bidding the above, or if you bid the above and fail, note that there is a 4.5* property on HOTWIRE (Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business) with a 4.5/5.0 Tripadvisor rating. This is a match for the Le Meridien so that woudl be our best guess, and it gets great reviews. At $152/nite it's a little more than you were considering bidding for a 4* hotel, but just thought i'd mention it in case your budget is flexible and you feel like 'splurging' a little. dear Posted July 10, 2008 Author Report Posted July 10, 2008 Thanks so much for your suggested strategies. Priceline finally accepted my $100 offer for a 3*. I will be staying at The Maxwell Hotel in USW. The retail price for those dates is $144 on their hotel website. This hotel is undergoing renovation. Location seems to be great, as it's right by the BART station. Thanks again!! Hopefully I will have no complaints about my stay at this hotel!
thereuare Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 Congratulations on your win!Glad to hear of your success and that you received a hotel within the budget you set out with.... we're happy to have helped. While i too read the hotel is undergoing renovations, some of the rooms are already renovated (and i'm sure even more will be 5 weeks from now), so i would ask for a renovated room at check-in.Thanks for sharing your win with the board helping us add this property to the Priceline Hotel List. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay. dear Posted July 11, 2008 Author Report Posted July 11, 2008 Thanks for the advice. I emailed the hotel in advance to request for a renovated room, but the response was that the rooms are not available until mid-Fall. On tripadvisor.com, there are a few people who were upgraded to a refurbished room in as early as May! The hotel staff lied to one party about the availability of the renovated rooms as well, but the manager upgraded them the next day. Any tips on how to have them offer me the new rooms, or wait until check-in with my request? I have a feeling that they'd lie about the rooms again.
thereuare Posted July 11, 2008 Report Posted July 11, 2008 For a 4 nite stay you may want to consider a nice tip at check-in :)Give this thread a read: Tipping At Hotels (read beyond the first 2-3 posts where it begins to discuss tipping the front desk) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
