996687 Posted July 6, 2008 Report Posted July 6, 2008 Hello,This is my first time on this site, and using priceline. I am looking to stay in Niagara Falls for two nights, on July 11th and 12th. I had originally planned on a 4 star hotel, but would be willing to stay in a 3 star. I have tried bidding already, and am up to $140 / night for a 4 star. I have also tried bidding on 3 stars, and when I submitted a $110 / night bid, I received a message saying that a $132 / night bid would win.Do these rates seem reasonable? Can anybody offer an alternative strategy to help receive the best rate? Thanks a lot for your help!
thereuare Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding!I have also tried bidding on 3 stars, and when I submitted a $110 / night bid, I received a message saying that a $132 / night bid would win.Was the $110 bid your first bid in the zone at the 3 star level (or was this a subsequent bid which included re-bid zones?) Do you recall what time this bid was made? Are you willing to go up to $132 for a 3 star? (although i suspect you'll get accepted lower)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. 996687 Posted July 7, 2008 Author Report Posted July 7, 2008 I started bidding at around $80 for the 3 star, but when I got up to $110, they suggested I bid $132. The bid was made Sunday afternoon. I would be willing to pay $132, but just want to try to find the best deal possible (would also be willing to pay a bit more for a nicer 4 star). Thanks a lot.

996687 Posted July 7, 2008 Author Report Posted July 7, 2008 I guess I'd be willing to bid up to around $150 for a 4 star. Any higher and I think I'd rather go with a 3 star.Is there any benefit to waiting until closer to the required date (acknowledging that you could risk losing availability).Thanks.
thereuare Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 Is there any benefit to waiting until closer to the required date (acknowledging that you could risk losing availability). The benefit is maybe availability gets better and you catch a last minute deal... of course there is also a downside, which is that hotels begin to sell-out and pull deeply discounted inventory entirely (or offer such a little discount that it doesn't pay to go with an opaque purchase). For more on this subject see the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ.If your next step is to bid for a 4* up to $150, you do have three re-bid zones available. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 4* Niagara Falls...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Niagara Falls and re-bid zone2...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Niagara Falls and re-bid zone3...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Niagara Falls and re-bid zone2 and re-bid zone3...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $150If the above is rejected, and you're ready to try for a 3*, let us know and we'll type our a strategy at that time.Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes.
