mis.ye Posted June 29, 2008 Report Posted June 29, 2008 Please help in bidding a 4* or 3* hotel at Times Square or Midtown West area staying on July 19-22. I am limiting my area choices to those two because it is my first time going to New York and I want to be at the center of things. :) My max budget is $180. Is that too low?
LaurRne14 Posted June 29, 2008 Report Posted June 29, 2008 If you take a look at the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins, a couple people have won the Roosevelt Hotel on dates close to yours for $135-$150. This hotel is in the Midtown East (MTE) zone which is not one you listed but I would consider adding it to your options. Having lived in NYC myself, I would be shocked if you didn't feel like this was still "at the center of things." MTE puts you really close to Rockefeller Center, Grand Central, 5th Ave shopping, UN, etc. and Times Square is still only 3 or 4 blocks away. Even if you ended up winning a hotel other than the Roosevelt I think you'd be satisfied with your location. Please use the PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to begin your purchase.
mis.ye Posted June 30, 2008 Author Report Posted June 30, 2008 Hi LaurRne14, thank you for the suggestion! I googled Roosevelt and learned that the hotel is three blocks from Broadway theaters. MTE is indeed also a good location. So, I will add MTE in my area choices. For a 4* my max budget is $180 while for a 3* my max budget is $140. Areas: TS/MTW/MTE. Please help with the bidding strategy. Thanks!

mis.ye Posted June 30, 2008 Author Report Posted June 30, 2008 Hi! Yes, I would like to try first for a 4* at TS/MTW/MTE at $180 max. Then, if rejected a 3* at $140 max. Please help. Tnx!
thereuare Posted June 30, 2008 Report Posted June 30, 2008 At the 4* level you have six re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding. (NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is different than priceline's "zone1", 're-bid zone2' is different than pricelnie's "zone2", etc, etc)Select 4* Times Square and MTE and MTW...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone5...Bid $150, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Times Square and MTE and MTW and re-bid zone6...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone5...Bid $180Any questionsl freel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. mis.ye Posted June 30, 2008 Author Report Posted June 30, 2008 I tried but all my offers were rejected. I think the price for a 4* TS/MTW/MTE in July is already high. The counter-offer of my first bid was $253 excl taxes. So, I will now try bidding for a 3* hotel. Please help again. Thanks!
thereuare Posted June 30, 2008 Report Posted June 30, 2008 At the 3* level you have three re-bid zones.Select 3* MTE and MTW and TS...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $115, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE.Select 3* MTE and MTW and TS and re-bid zone2...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $125, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE.Select 3* MTE and MTW and TS and re-bid zone3...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $135, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE.Select 3* MTE and MTW and TS and re-bid zone2 and re-bid zone3...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $145 (you dont' need to make this bid as it's $5 over your limit, but i think there is a good chance you'll get to this point, so i've included it in case you want to try the extra $5)Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. mis.ye Posted July 2, 2008 Author Report Posted July 2, 2008 Sigh, rejected again. I have been trying for 2 weeks already and upped by bid upto $220! Do you think the reason for my bid rejection is because I am using an International Credit Card and because my address is not actually in US/Canada? I read the thread for Foreigners in this board and I followed the 'tip' of using CA state and 99999 zip code but maybe the system read in the address line that I have inputted a country in Asia? :)Since I am desperate (will be arriving in the US on Wednesday next week), I have decided to get the travel zoo offer for Grand Hyatt at $199/night. A bit higher than my budget. But for my future hotel/plane ticket purchases, I will definitely use PRICELINE and access the link from this Board. Thanks for all your help! :)
thereuare Posted July 2, 2008 Report Posted July 2, 2008 The issue isn't credit card related as you would get a different rejection letter if that were the case... it's more an issue of rates being a bit higher than usual for your dates (for this time of year). The Grand Hyatt is a very nice hotel with good bus/subway options so even if a little more than your budget, i think it's a pretty good deal.Enjoy your stay.
