Hotwire Hotel: Going To Boston-Need Help

Hi! I am new to all of this and I am heading to Boston next week with my family for the first time. I would like advice on if we should look for something in the downtown area or suburbs(if suburbs, which ones). I am only planning on 1(maybe 2) of the days actually checking out the downtown area, then heading to Salem and maybe Plymouth. I was also wondering if I should be using Hotwire since there will be 4 of us and what kind of * rating to look for(it doesn't have to be fancy, just not scary or filthy). The one I seemed to find on Hotwire and think I figured out which one it is is only like a $7 savings over the hotel rate, does that seem right??

Thanks!

Heidi

I would figure out your itinerary first as that will likely affect your decision where you should ideally stay... in addition to your personal preference. Personally i like cities where i can walk out the door and walk to restaurants, stores, etc, so i prefer cities, but i'm sure there are other who prefer suburban properties for their own reasons.
I was also wondering if I should be using Hotwire since there will be 4 of us
PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, so if you want to ensure enough sleeping accoodations for each person in your family you'll need to use HOTWIRE.
and what kind of * rating to look for(it doesn't have to be fancy, just not scary or filthy).
Again, this is personal preference... what type of hotels do you typically stay in? Some people are happy with 2* motels while others find fault with some of the best 4* properties. When purchasing an opaque property we usually recommend sticking with the higher star levels, but much will be dependent up on your budget. What is your expected budget (per nite before fees and taxes) for this stay?

Hard to say without knowing the amenities of the HOTWIRE hotel you're being offered and which hotel you believe it is.

Your right, it is a total preference thing. That is the problem! My husband would prefer to be in the U.P. fishing, lol! He doesn't like cities. He hates driving in it so I thought if we stay in the suburbs and took the public transportation in that woul work out but am worried that that may be very confusing to use. I think my kids would think it was kind of cool to ride on a subway, though.

I am personally used to staying in Best Westerns/Fairfields/Country Inns, etc for work and those would be just fine since our vacation will hopefully not be spent in the room. I also do not feel comfortable in very upscale atmospheres.

The thing I was most concerned with as far as occupancy was if the area was known for not upgrading to allow 4 in a room. I can bring an air mattress but do not want to get there and be forced to get 2 rooms because we have too many people. My DH hates traveling as it is and would not be happy! If it were me I think it is a fun adventure to take the risks :)

The room I was looking at on Hotwire I believe is the Hyatt Summerfield in Burlington 3 1/2*. It is $84 on Hotwire but you can get the Hyatt.com rate for $89. I really wouldn't mind getting this since a kitchenette would be great but that seemed high for being discounted.

Thanks

Given your DH's feelings towards travel you may want to stick with HOTWIRE for quad occupancy... but you know him and your family best and how each person would react to any bumps in the road while traveling. Likewise, i think you know best whether the city or the 'burbs would be better for your family (although while i think most kids would think that a train ride is cool... it would probably be cooler staying in the city in a BIG hotel)

If you need a ktichenette you may want to go with the Summerfield Suites direct as that's a decent rate and you're probably not going to get a hotel with a kitchenette in the city itself.
