kawal Posted June 25, 2008 Report Posted June 25, 2008 Hi,I am looking for a hotel in Detroit. I'll be arriving at DTW 30-July and staying for 2 nights then flying to Orlando. However I have never been to Detroit and don't have a clue where to stay. Which is the best area, for sight-seeing and shopping? I won't have access to a vehicle and would rely on taxi's/ buses. Thanks for your help.
thereuare Posted June 25, 2008 Report Posted June 25, 2008 ...for sight-seeing and shopping?Exactly what type of shopping and sight seeing are you looking for... unless things have changed, Detroit (afaik) isn't exactly a 'tourist destination' or known for their shopping. kawal Posted July 7, 2008 Author Report Posted July 7, 2008 Hi,Many thanks for all your help. Just one last query that I hope you may be able to assist with-3-star hotel in Dearborn $62 for 2ad, 1ch. 2 nights, 30-Jul to 01-Aug.Hotel Amenities-Boutique HotelFitness CenterRestaurant(s)Airport ShuttlePool(s)Laundry FacilitiesTraveler Rating(4.0 out of 5)Based on: 20+ customer reviews Last Reviewed: June 2008.Thank you. :)
thereuare Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 This property has not yet been identified. With the TripAdvisor rating i would feel 'somewhat' confident that it would be a good stay/property, but i'm doubtful that any Shuttle offered from the airport would be complimentary (more likely they're on the route as a 'pick-up location' for a shared van service) so if you're considering this due to free airport transportion from the hotel i'm doubtful this would likely be the case. Also, i'm not really sure of your needs for this stay as you mentioned "sight seeing" and i'm not really sure what you intend to see in Detroit as it's not really a tourist destination.Let us know whatever you decide to do or if we can be of further help. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. kawal Posted July 7, 2008 Author Report Posted July 7, 2008 Thanks for your quick reply. Any chance this could be Hyatt Regency Dearborn?Even though you have just 4 amenties showing for it. On trip advisor it has Traveler Rating(4.0 out of 5) with 52 reveiw, Last Reviewed: June 2008.And hotwire shows Traveler Rating(4.0 out of 5)Based on: 20+ reviews Last Reviewed: June 2008. There are 13 Dearborn hotels on Tripadvisor, and I feel Hyatt's the closest match, or does it not work like that?On the Hyatt website it says there is a shuttle with a surcharge.I'm hoping it is the Hyatt as it's next to a mall. Other than that it doesn't really matter, as we are only stopping there for 2 nights before flying to Orlando. If I decide to go for it, I'll let you know what it is.Thanks again for your help.
thereuare Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 I suppose the Hyatt is possible, but the number of TripAdvisor rating contradicts this being a likely candidate and although this Hyatt advertises "plush bedding" i'm not sure if i would exactly describe that as 'boutique'... so i'd say it's possible, but i wouldn't bet on it.What do you intend to do in the area? If it were me i'd wonder around the UofM camput in Ann Arbor :) or head to Windsor just to see what's up in Canada, and choose to stay someplace around there... unless you're trying to use the hotel as a 'resort' and simply lounge around and use pool/fitness facilities. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. yoyosma Posted July 25, 2008 Report Posted July 25, 2008 Hi I know this is a few days late, but as far as Dearborn is concerned there is plenty to do/see for a day or so. Greenfield Village/Henry Ford Museum, Automotive Museum, Fairlane Manor, and Rouge Plant tour - as good or better then UM campus in AA. The Fairlane Mall isn't what it once was as far as shopping goes. A car would be recommended but not absolutely necessary from Hyatt Regency or Ritz or Dearborn Inn.
kawal Posted May 23, 2010 Author Report Posted May 23, 2010 Just to update the thread, unfortunately I didn't book thru HOTWIRE. In the end just booked a cheap hotel near the airport on Expedia.Sorry for the massive delay in updating, and closing the thread.
