Hi,

I need a room in Pittsburgh for the night of August 11, preferably in the DT zone.

I've tried for 4* bidding up to $100 with no success.

Also tried for a 3* up to $80, same results.

Am I bidding too low? Any suggestions?

Thanks

P.S.: I've never been in Pittsburgh, therefore I have no idea whether other zones could be suitable for my parents' needs.

Pittsburgh is usually a great, inexpensive, PRICELINE city... but there have a been a few reports lately of users having a tough time with certain dates.

I made my first trip to Pittsburgh about a year ago, and you really want to stay 'downtown' for the typical visitor. I wouldn't chase this one just yet, but what is the best rate you're able to find thru conventional means? (use our BetterChecker to assist in your search)

Hi thereuare, thanks for your reply.

The best rates I found:

Downtown:

Hilton Pittsburgh: $239

Renaissance: $299

Sheraton Station Square Hotel: $249

Courtyard: $229

Doubletree: $259

Not downtown:

Holiday Inn @ Univ Ctr: $179

Hampton Inn Univ Ctr: $139

I'm having similar difficulties with my bid for Buffalo/Niagara Falls for August 9th.

Too early to try?

Thanks

The rates above are higher than usual, and therefore it would make sens that it will take a higher than usual bid t be accepted. As well, your bids aren't even half of a traditional rate booking, so they would likely be considered fairly low for these dates. You still have plenty of time before your stay and it's possbiel hotel direct rates come down between now and then... but with your bids less than half the going rate directly thru the hotel websites your chance of success is usually pretty low.

Unfortunately I will be away soon, so I won't be able to check whether rates get lower, and my parents are not able to bid by themselves.

So I tried again today, and decided to go as high as $150 for a 4*, but it was not necessary. My bid got accepted at $130.

Luckily the Euro/$ exchange rate allows us to bid a bit higher than usual, since the total of $156 is about EUR 100 which is a very good price for a 4* hotel.

Rack rate for the room was $299+tax, so it's less than half price. I think my parents will be happy.

As usual, I placed all bids using the provided PRICELINE link.

Don't see how they can complain about that at all!

I spent a long wekend in Pittsburgh about a year ago and it's a relative small city so nothing is really too far away. If they have time, the inclinator (i think that's what it was called) was nice to experience and had some nice views and photo opportunities.

Thanks for sharing your win and using our PRICELINE links to begin your bidding.

Hope your parents enjoy Pittsburgh.

Thanks for the help, and for the hints. I'll make sure my parents will check the inclinator out, even though I have no idea about what it is :-)

I think what is meant is the "incline" railway
