Hi,

I'm new to Priceline and was hoping for a little help with my first attempt. I'm travelling to Chicago July 30-Aug 1 (2 nights) to do some sightseeing so I'd like to be in a convenient location. How does the bidding work and where should I start?

Thanks!

If you head to HOTWIRE.com and search for Chicago for your dates, there is a 4* hotel in the North Michigan Ave/Water Tower/Gold Coast area with the amenities: fitness, business, restaurant, internet. It is also a "customer favorite" and if you click continue to see more details about the hotel, there should be a 4 out of 5 tripadvisor rating at the bottom of the page.

Given the 4 out of 5 tripadvisor rating and customer favorite, I'm guessing this is the Drake.

Please use the site's HOTWIRE click (click the HOTWIRE) to start your purchase (as it helps support the site) if you are interested in this idea.

If you do need directions, suggestions for things to do or other hotel ideas, please don't hesitate to ask.

You could bid on PRICELINE, but given that prices seem to be higher-than-normal on these dates and I really question whether you could get a 4* for less than the $99 Hotwire listing (if so, it wouldn't be more than a few bucks less) and at least this way, you have some idea what you could possibly be getting, whereas that wouldn't be the case w/PRICELINE.

Thanks a lot! I checked into it more and I'm pretty sure its the Drake. You've helped me a bunch with the first half of my trip. One more quick question-- I'm not familiar with the area at all..is this hotel close to the subway?

The subway station at Chicago and State is proabably about a 5 minute walk away (but couldn't be a nicer walk, through the Mag Mile area). You could also head NW to the Clark/Division stop.

The Drake is at the top end of the Michigan Ave. shopping area. The beach is under a tunnel across the street. Michigan Ave. shopping is to the South from the Drake all the way to the river, but the biggest part of it (Water Tower Mall, etc.) is in the 3-4 blocks directly South of the hotel. The Oak Street boutique shopping area is a block away.

Any other questions, please ask.

Do you need help with part II of your trip? :)

The Drake is an excellent property - it's an incredibly historic and a beautiful example of a magnificent, grand "old world" property (it's sort of Chicago's version of NYC's Waldorf Astoria). This was also an excellent deal, as the $99 Hotwire rate was more than half off the lowest regular rate ($229) for these nights. Thank you for reporting your win and glad I could help. :)

The original poster did make the purchase; I just split the thread because I also helped the original poster with a cleveland stay in the same thread. The second half of the thread (which confirms the buy of the Drake and talks about the second part of the stay) has been bumped over to the Priceline Ohio area
