xLilyTx Posted June 11, 2008 Report Posted June 11, 2008 Can someone let me know what price range I'd be looking to bid for a 3 or 4 star hotel in the Central Park South, Empire State, Madison Square Garden, Midtown East/West or Times Square area for July 12-15?A friend of mine found a deal for the Edison Towers Times Square for about $170/night. Is that a good deal and a decent hotel to stay at?Any info would be a great help...thanks!
AaronJB Posted June 11, 2008 Report Posted June 11, 2008 Edison Towers gets some pretty mixed reviews on Tripadvisor, with some of the negative ones being a little troubling (at least to me.)For these dates, Quikbook.com has the Paramount Hotel for $176 or, better yet, 6 Columbus Circle for $182 for these dates. 6 Columbus Circle gets very good reviews and is in a superb location. For $12 more than what your friend paid for the Edison Towers, he/she could be staying at a much nicer property. If you would prefer a refundable reservation, the 6 Columbus Circle deal on Quikbook.com would be a very good deal.In terms of Priceline, $135 would - I think - be a good starting point for a 4* in the areas you are looking for, as rates seem at least somewhat better than they usually do in NYC.We would greatly appreciate if you could click on the PRICELINE or Quikbook.com links to start your purchase, as it does support the site.
thereuare Posted June 11, 2008 Report Posted June 11, 2008 Do either of the Quickbook options work for your needs? If you would like to still try PRICELINE, let us know your maximum bid an dwe will suggest a strategy for your to follow. Also, if you intend on bidding, are you willing to pay more for a 4* property vs. a 3* property or is your goal the last expensive 3* or better hotel for this stay? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. xLilyTx Posted June 11, 2008 Author Report Posted June 11, 2008 I think I would still like to try PRICELINE. My maximum bid for a 4* hotel would be $180 and for a 3* would be $130. My first choice would be to stay at a 4* hotel. Is that too low, or should I increase my bid?Do you think it would be cheaper to go July 12-15 or in mid August?
thereuare Posted June 11, 2008 Report Posted June 11, 2008 If you're looking for a 4* hotel, why not:1) reserve the 6 Columbus Circle for $182/nite so that you have an acceptable 4* hotel reserved within your budget (don't expect this rate to be here in days/weeks if/when you decide you want it)... the bigger room there is just $10 more at $192 and may be worth it if there are two of you and would like some more space2) try for a 4* for the above dates3) try for a 4* for your alternate set of dates. It seems to me that if you're looking for a 4* hotel for $180, you can essentially do that with 6 Columbus Circle thru Quickbook... so why consider the 3 star options (since you say you would prefer a 4* at $180) or consider changing your dates? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. xLilyTx Posted June 13, 2008 Author Report Posted June 13, 2008 You make a very good point. I guess I sort of want to stay in a hotel chain instead. I'll book the 6 columbus (hopefully it's still available) and try my luck on PRICELINE as well. Who knows, maybe i'll get an even better deal. :)Thanks for your advice...it is much appreciated!
thereuare Posted June 14, 2008 Report Posted June 14, 2008 I guess I sort of want to stay in a hotel chain instead. While not a major brand, 6 Columbus Circle is being run by the Thomson Group which is doing some very good things in the hotel market in af few major cities (similar to where the Affinia Group was a few years ago)... neither are major brands but are getting excellent reviews for what they have done (basically rehabilitating properties and turning them into first class hotels)Did you want to bid on PRICELINE to try to beat this rate? If so, if you'd like a bidding strategy to follow let us know your maximum bid and we'll advise accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.
