felicit0us Posted June 10, 2008 Report Posted June 10, 2008 My husband and I are going to be spending June 17-21 in NYC. We have a backup hotel booked for $250/night which is significantly higher than what I would like to pay. I found this site in April and used it to bid off and on through mid-May, at which point I began bidding more regularly. Since June 1 I have been bidding on a daily basis, but am still having no luck. In general I have been following two bidding models, one for a 4* and one for a 3*:Select 4* MTE, MTW, TSBid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use link to re-access PRICELINE.Select 4* MTE, MTW, TS, CPSBid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and use link to re-access PRICELINE.Select 4* MTE, MTW, TS, CPS, ESBBid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone5...Bid $200 <-- This is my preferred maximum bid for a 4*With no luck, I attempt a 3* bid:Select 3* MTE, MTW, TS, CPSBid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $135, if rejected close browser and use link to re-access PRICELINE.Select 3* MTE, MTW, TS, ESBBid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and use link to re-access PRICELINE.Select 3* MTE, MTW, TS, CPS, ESBBid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $175 <-- This is my preferred maximum bid for a 3*I see others winning 3* and 4* for relativlely low prices, but I can't even get one with my maximum bids. Does my difficulty have something to do with the length of our stay or perhaps the specific dates? Is there anytime of day that is better for bidding? As it looks right now, we'll be stuck with our $250/night room. Please help!
AaronJB Posted June 10, 2008 Report Posted June 10, 2008 Welcome to the site :-)New York City is expensive when it comes to hotels and $200-250 often seems - unfortunately - like the low-end when it comes to regular rates for hotels. These particular dates seem quite expensive, to the point where I'd have to believe there is something going on (convention, etc.)Quikbook.com has the highly regarded 6 Columbus Circle for $199 for the last night of your trip (the prior nights are much more expensive and even the last night is more expensive than $199 on the hotel website). While that's a great deal, it's difficult to find anything reasonable for the first 3 nights.

felicit0us Posted June 11, 2008 Author Report Posted June 11, 2008 Splitting the bid is something in which I am not interested. We there for such a short time, I'd hate to waste it moving from one hotel to another. Our back-up hotel is Red Roof Inn on W 32nd. At the time I was unaware of Quikbook.com, so I booked directly through the hotel's site. I like the location of the hotel and the reviews I have read seem fairly complimentary.
thereuare Posted June 11, 2008 Report Posted June 11, 2008 Based upon current rates, without SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID i don't think you're going to be successful at $175 or less. While the Red Roof Inn gets decent reviews, it is a 2* property, and you may want to consider raising your maximum in an attempt to spend about the same for a higher quality hotel.I wish you had posted back in April when you started bidding for this stay as there might have been more options and we may have been able to assist more, but with less than a week before your begins and little availabilty, there isn't much you can do.Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. felicit0us Posted February 15, 2010 Author Report Posted February 15, 2010 We ended up using our back-up hotel, the Red Roof Inn on W 32nd. It wasn't fancy, but it was in a good location and was comfortable enough.
