jds Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 My wife and I will be in NYC for 4 nights from 6/26 thru 6/30 (next weekend). We are flexible in what area to stay in, but generally prefer MTW, MTE, UM/CPS, UES or UWS. Looking for 4* or 5*. Currently hotwire has 4* in lower manhattan for $253 and in MTC at $234, which I will probably book if priceline doesn't work out. I have found availability at 4* through direct booking at rates b/t $220-$300, which is also acceptable, but of course I would prefer to save as much as possible. Any bidding suggestions? jds
thereuare Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 Welcome to BetterBidding! Before i suggest a bidding strategy, what are your thoughts about SPLITTING THE BID?Doing research for your dates a bit more indepth reveals that rates for the 26th are very high, the 27th are very low, and the 28th and 29th are about average. If you did have success on Priceline for all 4 nites (together) i think you'll likely be 'over-bidding' for the last 3 nites.Let me know your thoughts (or questions you may have) regarding splitting the bid. jds Posted June 21, 2004 Author Report Posted June 21, 2004 Because there are currently some rates that I am willing to take, I do not want to have to switch hotels, so I prefer not to split the bid.
thereuare Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 I'm going to supply a strategy that bids up to $200/nite because that is about equal to your $220 direct rate after Priceline the fee (what hotel is this at?)This is how i would bid:4* MTWBid $140, if rejected add UE and...Bid $150, if rejected add UW and...Bid $160.If rejected close browser and re-access Priceline again using whatever source you did previously and...4* MTEBid $140, if rejected add UE and...Bid $150, if rejected add UW and...Bid $160.If rejected close browser and re-access Priceline again using whatever source you did previously and...4* UM/CPSBid $140, if rejected add UE and...Bid $150, if rejected add UW and...Bid $160.If rejected close browser and re-access Priceline again using whatever source you did previously and...4* MTW and MTEBid $170If rejected close browser and re-access Priceline again using whatever source you did previously and...4* MTW and UM/CPSBid $170, if rejected add MTE and...Bid $180, if rejected add UE and...Bid $190, if rejected add UW and...Bid $200If the above is rejected it will be on account of the nite of the 26th, as i think bidding the other 3 nites would result in success (and at lower levels).Good luck with teh above and feel free to ask any questions that you may have. jds Posted June 21, 2004 Author Report Posted June 21, 2004 The $220 rate was at the Westin, and may still be available because I have since cancelled it. I appreciate your strategy suggestions, but I had just booked on hotwire when I checked the board and saw your message. Thanks anyway. As for the hotwire bid, I got the Intercontinental - Barclay at $185/nt for 6/26 through 6/30. Amenities listed were restaurant, fitness center, business center, and tennis nearby. I am very pleased with the rate, so no complaints about not trying the Priceline strategy. Thanks again. jds
thereuare Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 Rates may have come down since i had posted that strategy (and since you had quoted higher Hotwire rates earlier... which i too had seen).Given the rates that were seen earlier i think that is an excellent rate and you should be pleased with it given the higher than usual rates we had seen.Important thing is that you're now all set and ready to enjoy your trip.Have a great stay and most importantly... fun in NYC.
