hawkex Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 Thank you very much for your assistance on 6/12-15. I won the Barclay for those dates for $165. Since I am committed, it's really about getting the lowest rate possible. If I could stay below $250 that would be great. I know the Barclay has no rooms available for 6/10 as of today so there isn't much chance of extending my stay there. So I am back to bidding on CPS, ES, MTE, MTW and TS. Any advice? Thanks again!
thereuare Posted May 30, 2008 Report Posted May 30, 2008 To confirm/clarify... you actually need 2 nites, 6/10-6/12, correct? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
AaronJB Posted May 30, 2008 Report Posted May 30, 2008 I'd have to imagine 6/10-12 is going to be difficult when Hotwire shows (at least for me) no listings at all in NYC - only the surrounding areas.
thereuare Posted May 30, 2008 Report Posted May 30, 2008 What are your thougths regarding staying at a good place outside the city vs. staying at a low star rated hotel in the city? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
hawkex Posted May 30, 2008 Author Report Posted May 30, 2008 I bid NYC up $275 for these dates with no luck. We arrive in Newark late afternoon on 6/10. I was able to book 6/11 through the Barclay at full rate as a backup. So I am considering using that and going through HOTWIRE for a 3.5* at Newark airport for ~$85 for 6/10. With the success I had on the other nights it still keeps my overall per night cost to about 50% of Expedia, Travelocity, etc. What do you think?
thereuare Posted May 30, 2008 Report Posted May 30, 2008 What is the rate at the Barclay? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
hawkex Posted May 30, 2008 Author Report Posted May 30, 2008 What is the rate at the Barclay?Pretty high - $559
thereuare Posted May 31, 2008 Report Posted May 31, 2008 Another option...For 6/10 in Jersey City HOTWIRE shows a 4* hotel for $179/nite with Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business... a match and very likely the Hyatt on the Hudson, for which there is a PATH train steps from the door which will have you in Downtown Manhattan in 8 minutes (a bit longer at 15 minutes to midtown).Assuming correct, you could then book the next nite 6/11 directly thru the Hyatt at $379/nite (both refundable and non-refundable rate are the same... so book the refundable rate :) )... thus spending two nites at the Hyatt for less than one direct at the InterContinental Barclay + the nite at the Airport... still only changing hotels once, and when you wake up after the first nite you have easy access into the city to "start" your vacation and enjoy the city.As well, booking the cancellable rate thru the Hyatt website gives you the opportunity to continue to search HOTWIRE for this same hotel for the nite of the 11th in hopes of it appearing for less. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Thoughts? hawkex Posted May 31, 2008 Author Report Posted May 31, 2008 I was able to book Hyatt on the Hudson through PRICELINE for $125 for 6/10. I'll post the win in the NJ forum. Thanks so much for your help, you have saved us a ton of money!
thereuare Posted May 31, 2008 Report Posted May 31, 2008 Congratulations on your success!Glad to hear it worked out well... this is a very nice hotel and the views are magnificent.Did you book the nite of 6/11 directly with the hotel? (or do you intend to keep your Inter-Continental reservation at $500+)If you send me a PM i'll give you some info on taxi companies which take you from EWR to Jersey City for $25-$28... cheaper than the rate directly from a taxi at the airport.Enjoy this leg of your stay.
