We're going to NY to see the last NY/Bos game at Yankee stadium and all the normal tourist stuff. (4 nights)

I've never used Priceline before, but I'm want to give it a shot especially having read a lot of the forums. Sounds like fun.

my canceable is Millennium Hotel NY UN Plaza @$254/night. only 3* =( I want a 4* in Time Square with MTE/MTW as acceptable alts. We're pretty flexible, just trying to get a good deal at a good hotel.

Check-In Date: Wed, Aug 27, 2008

Check-In Time: After 03:00 PM

Check-Out Date: Mon, Jul 14, 2003

Check-Out Time: 9 AM

My question:

Due to the holiday weekend, this seems like a good canidate to split my stay between 2 - 2 night stays. wed/thurs and fri/sat. We really don't mind this and think it might be fun to stay in 2 seperate hotels. What do you guys think?

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Are you willing to pay more for a 4* hotel in the Times Square zone than the MTE or MTW zones? Is there a reason you're not including the ESB or CPS zones in your bidding? (which are also considered very centrally located for the average visitor) You may also want to give this thread a read as well: Hotels Near Times Square

As far as SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID, it's usually only worthwhile if you're able to save a few dollars... some people will do it to save $10... others won't do it even if they can save $100, so it's something you (and anyone you're traveling with) will have to decide how much savings you need for it to make sense.

What is your maximum bid for this stay?

Let us know the above and we'll take it from there.

Paying more for TS, CPS, MTE, and MTW makes sense to us. ESB if we had too, but we'd like to do some running in central park so we don't want to stray. much farther south. I hate running through stoplights....

I'm willing to spend anything to get into TS, CPS, MTE, and MTW, alhough if it started to get ridiculous...(400/night) I may start reanalyzing things. Based on what I've seen on these boards I'm expecting to pay arround 200-250.

I'd split if it saved us a $150. Less than that, no.

How'd i do?

Thanks for your help!

So all four fo these zones are actually equally prefered in the sense that you're not willing to spend more to get into one of them (ie- Times Square) vs the others?

I don't think your budget will likely be an issue this time of year (although haven't resesrched it yet)... please confirm the above and we'll proceed.

At the 4* level you have six re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 4* TS, CPS, MTE, and MTW...

Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone2...

Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone3...

Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone4...

Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone5...

Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE.

Select 4* TS, CPS, MTE, and MTW and re-bid zone6...

Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone2...

Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone3...

Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone4...

Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone5...

Bid $175.

This far ahead of your stay i wouldn't bid higher than $175 at the moment. If the above is rejected i would book a cancellable back-up while you continue to try. I did find thru Quickbook the Desmond Tutu Center for $175/nite for your dates, but it's a little 'out of the way' and not in one of the three zones above, but i would book that as a back-up as the reviews have been great and at least it protects you should rates suddenly jump unexpectedly why you continue to bid. (or find some other suitable back-up... if you go with above please use our Quickbook link)

Any questions feel free to ask.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

we decided to split our stay at two hotels. I just got the Westin New York at Times Square for $175 8/27 - 8/29

I'm going to try for 8/29-8/31 starting next week.

I know there is a chance We'll get the same hotel, but I think it's worthwhile to keep TS in my selection and roll the dice.... so to speak.

more to come...

Congratualtions on your win!

Glad to hear of your <partial> success... a very nice hotel.

Thank you for sharing your results with the board. Did you try bidding for the complete dates together right before you won this 2 nite stay, as rates for the remaining two nites (directly from the Westin website are actually less than the two nites you just won.

If you need help with the balance of your stay (or to report your eventual win for the remaining dates) please start a NEW TOPIC.

Enjoy your stay.

NOTE: HOTWIRE is currently showing what is believed to be the Westin for $209 for you remaining nites

I did not try the stay together.

I tried searching the 8/29-8/31 and get a rate of 314/night @ the westin. are we looking at the same hotel?

Yes, if you search the Westin for the dates you have already won, you'll see that the rate is $350+/nite... the nites you have already won are more expensive than the dates you still need.

If you're now looking to get the same hotel, why did you split the dates in the first place?

To keep the board better organized, please start a NEW TOPIC for the remaining nites of your stay.

I'm not looking for a new hotel, i was just trying to recreate the previously quoted statement, thinking you were able to get the westin from thier website for less than 175. I see what you are saying now. weds/thurs rates are less than fri/sat.

I will post my results in a different thread.
