das.iglo Posted May 30, 2008 Report Posted May 30, 2008 Hi everyone, first of all great compliments to your fantastic homepage. It seems as if the trip to New York is already adventurous before even getting to NYC :) . We are willing to spend 170 $ per night fr a 4* hotel. Is that realistic for the given time period to get a hotel in midtown west, midtown east, soho, chelsea, upper manhatten? What do you think is the best strategy? Can one bid on a Saturday?Nice Regards
lee. Posted May 30, 2008 Report Posted May 30, 2008 I have bid up to 165 for the 26th-30th, without sucess. For this same period there is a hotwire 4* for 187 in Midtown Central. I am still waiting, hoping to get something a bit cheaper through Priceline....I will let you know what I find.
thereuare Posted May 30, 2008 Report Posted May 30, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding! To begin, some of the zones you listed don't have 4* properties, are you familiar with re-bidding? (see Priceline Re-Bidding Explained)Also, how familiar with NYC are you? Some of the zones you selected are not typically the first choice of the typical visitor, as well, you did not include some zones which are usually included among most visitors (Times Square, Empire State Building). Lastly, note that the SoHo zone is much larger than just SoHo... it also includes the Downtown/Financial District; is this part of the zone also acceptable to you? (again, not one that most visitors find centrally located... unless you have reason to be down in that area)Let's start with the above and we'll take it from there. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. das.iglo Posted May 31, 2008 Author Report Posted May 31, 2008 Hi, actually I am not familiar with NY. I thought the zones I mentioned are the most central. :) I've only been once to NY, it's been a long time...Indeed, we are a typical visitor from Switzerland and want to spend these days in NY. We will arrive 7/21 and leave on 7/26 and would prefer to stay in a 4* hotel and are willing to pay 170$ excl. taxes. We would stay as well in a 3* hotel, but for these we are willing to pay only 150$. What I have read so far it makes sense to reserve a hotel which can be cancelled. I was thinking of reserving the hotel ravel on long island. It would cost 170$ per night. It seems to be nice, at least from there homepage. Which zones can you recommend?Thank you so much for your help!
thereuare Posted May 31, 2008 Report Posted May 31, 2008 You don't want to stay on Long Island if you intend on spending most of your time in Manhattan.A better back-up would be the Desmond Tutu Center for $176/nite thru Quickbook (please use this link) which has been getting excellent reviews. It is a little 'out of the way' in the sense that it's about a 10 minute walk to the subway, but it would be a much better choice than Long Island and is a pretty good deal for these dates for a non-opauqe (where you know the name of the hotel) booking.Assuming this is acceptable, i would then try to beat this using PRICELINE... bidding the MTE, MTW, TS, CPS, and ESB zones, which are all generally considered centrally located.Let us know if the above is acceptable, and if so, if you have reserved the Desmond Tutu as a back-up. Once that is done, let us know if the above NYC zones are acceptable and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. das.iglo Posted May 31, 2008 Author Report Posted May 31, 2008 Great hotel that you have suggested. I have just reserved it for the time period. Thanks a lot!!!! The zones you have suggested should be fine with me!Thanks a lot!
thereuare Posted May 31, 2008 Report Posted May 31, 2008 At the 4* level you have six re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* TS, CPS, MTE, ESB, and MTW...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone5...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE.Select 4* TS, CPS, MTE, ESB, and MTW and re-bid zone6...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone5...Bid $175. (you can leave off this last bid if you don't want to go another $5)Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. das.iglo Posted June 5, 2008 Author Report Posted June 5, 2008 Hi, I have just found a 4* hotel with hotwire in midtown central from 7/21 - 7/26 with a fitness center, restaurant, business center and high speed internet access for 191 USD. Which hotel could it be? In my opinion it can only be the Sofitel - the Helmsley PArk Lane has been downgraded to a 3.5* hotel (which would be the other 4* hotel with these characteristics in that area accoriding to the hotwire list in this forum.
das.iglo Posted June 5, 2008 Author Report Posted June 5, 2008 so far we were not lucky....still waiting and checking it everyday.
das.iglo Posted June 11, 2008 Author Report Posted June 11, 2008 still nothing....i am still bidding for the 4* until 175 USD and started bidding for a 3* until 150 USD for that time period....
thereuare Posted June 11, 2008 Report Posted June 11, 2008 With a good cancellable back-up thru Quickbook i wouldn't panic (nor bid higher than you are currently). Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
