Smol0028 Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 I am looking for a 4* hotel in TS, MTE, or MTW. I have tried all of these up to $230 for the past 4 days and I can't get anything. I have even tried 3* up to $215 for these areas and nothing. What else could I try?My budget is about $230 before taxes. I don't have a back up right now.
thereuare Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding!I haven't looked at rates for your dates yet to see if it would help, but is there a reason you're not including the CPS, ESB, MGS, and/or Chelsea zones in your bidding? (some of these only have 3* bidding available)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. hanumansf Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 Hey Smol0028,I'm not sure why you are bidding that much. You are staying on a Sunday and Monday, and there are plenty of conventional deals out there for less than 230. In my opinion you got lucky nobody accepted. Some of the hotels in those zones are duds, and there are a number of great hotels (including 4*s) on Quikbook.com in your price range for your dates. I hope this helps.Best,Tom
Smol0028 Posted May 29, 2008 Author Report Posted May 29, 2008 Hey,thanks for the reply's. I am bidding on the areas that my Mother wants to stay and I am not that familiar with NYC. I have bid on CPS I just for got to include that in my list but She wants to stay in TS but I can't find anything in TS that is a 4* or a nice 3* for less. I would ideally like to stay in TS.As far as Quikbook, I have looked and I don't see the deals that you do. Could you maybe give me an example of one of the Hotels youa re talking about. What I see are good deals for Sat and Sun and the prices sky rocket for Mon night. I am also not familar with NYC hotels so I don't know what the nice hotels. The only hotel I have stayed in was the Crowne Plaza like 4 yrs ago.
hanumansf Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 Sorry about that. I plugged in the wrong dates. There are still a couple of places on Quikbook that would be decent back-ups for you. I'm not a big fan of the Times Square zone. Midtown East and Central Park South are more pleasant zones in my opinion, but are still an easy walk to Times Square. Sorry for the confusion earlier. Good luck bidding.
thereuare Posted May 30, 2008 Report Posted May 30, 2008 She wants to stay in TS but I can't find anything in TS that is a 4* or a nice 3* for less. I would ideally like to stay in TS.I'm not a big fan of the Times Square zone.I agree with hanumansf... i'd give this Hotel Near Times Square thread a read and then discuss with your mom (maybe even show her the thread). Then let us know if you want to continue to focus on that area and we'll then have a closer look at your dates and advise accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Smol0028 Posted May 30, 2008 Author Report Posted May 30, 2008 We are willing to stay in MTE or CPS as well as MTW and TS.
AaronJB Posted May 30, 2008 Report Posted May 30, 2008 Hotwire has a 3.5* in MTC for $219, a 4* for $239 in MTC, a 4* downtown for $209.Please use the site's link to HOTWIRE (click the HOTWIRE) if you do decide to purchase any of these listings. The 3.5* MTC may be the Hudson, which has notoriously small rooms. The 4* downtown may be the Millennium Hilton. Not sure what the 4* MTC is.
thereuare Posted May 31, 2008 Report Posted May 31, 2008 Smol0028,Are any of the above HOTWIRE offerings of interest? When was the last time your tried PRICELINE?Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Smol0028 Posted May 31, 2008 Author Report Posted May 31, 2008 I will take a look at the two 4* HOTWIRE listings. I did see the one for Hudson and if all else fails I could take that but I have heard that the rooms are really small even for NYC standards. It has been maybe 2-3 days since I have bid on PRICELINE. Should I try it again??

Smol0028 Posted June 1, 2008 Author Report Posted June 1, 2008 Well I tried bidding priceline as you suggested and all where rejected. I might try biding 3* on my areas for a little less and see if I get something. Thanks for the suggestions and I'll keep trying. I'll let you know if I win something or if I give up and book something through another site. Also I used your priceline and HOTWIRE links.
Smol0028 Posted June 2, 2008 Author Report Posted June 2, 2008 I have tried all areas with rebid zones for 3* up to $220 and still got nothing. I decided to split my nights becasue I think Monday night is why the prices are so high. I went to HOTWIRE and booked a 4* hotel in TS for $219 per night for June 14-16. I won Millenium Broadway Hotel. I'm happy with it.I am going to book Mon night at a hotel near JFK since I will need to be in that area on Tues morning and the hotels are cheaper. Thanks for all your help and I'll make sure to use this site for advice on my future trips. :)
thereuare Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 Thank you for sharing your results with the board.Glad you found something which would work for your needs and within your budget. Can you please add the amenities shown before your purchase. You can still view these by going to HOTWIRE and clicking the MY ACCOUNT link near the top right of their home page. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Thanks, enjoy your stay.PS- if you'd like help with the remaining nite of your stay feel free to start a NEW TOPIC (i'll add that unless you have an early flight on the 17th, there may be some options available to you in Manhattan which are not 4 stars, but would likely be 'acceptable' for a one nite stay) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
AaronJB Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 Glad one of the HOTWIRE listings worked out, and a nice hotel, too.
