KMom Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 Hi,I am looking for some tips/advice for using HOTWIRE for the first time and also this site for the first time. We need quad accomodations so I don't think I will try PRICELINE. The published rates on Hotels.com and directly seem very high for 6/19-6/21.thanks
thereuare Posted May 30, 2008 Report Posted May 30, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding!Have you done a HOTWIRE search (for quad) occupancy and do any hotels apepar which meet your minimum star rating and budget requirements? What is your budget for this stay? (per nite before fees and taxes) What is your minimum star rating? Are you 4adults or a combination of adults/kids?Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. KMom Posted May 30, 2008 Author Report Posted May 30, 2008 Yes, I have done several HOTWIRE searches through your links. Ideally, I would like 4 star and would be willing to pay around $300. The only options that are coming up in the Midtown area for these dates with 2 adults and 2 children are a 3 star in Times Square for $299 or 3 star in MTS for $276. I have also used your links for GTA Hotels and Quickbook and haven't found much for these dates. Maybe some big event is happening around this time?
AaronJB Posted May 30, 2008 Report Posted May 30, 2008 It would be a little more than what you want to pay, but the famed 4* Waldorf Astoria is $329 for these dates on Expedia.comUse coupon code welcomeback05 and you get $10 off each night - $319.I normally wouldn't suggest spending over budget, but I thought this would be worth suggesting as such a landmark/legendary hotel likely would offer a more memorable and uniquely "New York" experience.Additionally, if you're considering a 3* for $299 on Hotwire, this is a refundable reservation (although please read the fine print on Expedia.com regarding cancel policy for this particular hotel on these dates.) at a 4* for only $20 more per night. Plus, you'd also be booking a reservation for two double beds so you'd have that locked in - plus, unlike Hotwire, you'd know what hotel you were getting.Additionally, I have to wonder if this rate will be corrected/raised soon, because the room with two doubles on Expedia is $329. The single bed room on Hilton.com for these dates is $349 - it's very unusual that the room w/2 beds would be less. Please use the site's link to Expedia.com if you do decide to book this trip.
thereuare Posted May 30, 2008 Report Posted May 30, 2008 Does the Expedia Waldorf deal work for you? (nice find AaronJB :) ) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
KMom Posted May 31, 2008 Author Report Posted May 31, 2008 Thanks, I did go ahead and book a room at the Waldorf that is completely refundable. It didn't look like it would be refundable through Expedia and it was the same price (not counting the $10 a night coupon) directly through the hotel at $329/night. I would still like to try booking through HOTWIRE so I will keep monitoring that. At this time they are not really showing much at all for quad occupany. I would appreciate any tips if someone sees lower rates for 4 stars for June 19-21
KMom Posted June 13, 2008 Author Report Posted June 13, 2008 As I said in my last post, I have reservations at the Waldorf at $329/night but have decided that I would like to give HOTWIRE a try looking for a room for just 2 adults (it was when I added the 2 children to the search that not much was available). It looks like these are two good options and would appreciate help in identfying:Downtown Soho 4* @ 209Fitness CenterRest.HS InternetPool Bus. Center 4/5 on T.A. with 460+ reviewsMTS 4* @ 256Rest.Bus CenterHS Internet4/5 on T.A. with 320+ reviewsor any other good suggestions for these dates via Hotwire. I haven't tried Priceline.
thereuare Posted June 14, 2008 Report Posted June 14, 2008 I would like to give HOTWIRE a try looking for a room for just 2 adults...So to confirm... are you just going to 'wing it' and hope for the best given that you'll actually be quad occupancy? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. KMom Posted June 14, 2008 Author Report Posted June 14, 2008 Yes, that is what we are thinking that it will be worth it to take the chance with the big difference in price.
thereuare Posted June 14, 2008 Report Posted June 14, 2008 The Downtown hotel is a match for the Millenium Hilton while the MTS hotel is a match for the Carlton on Madison, so these would be our best guess for each. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know which you decide and how it goes or if we can be of further help.
