scroogeduck Posted May 26, 2008 Report Posted May 26, 2008 What is the strategy to go by for obtaining a 4*/3* room for $150 excluding tax for the zonesCPSDowntownChelseaMTWMTETSESBMSGThe stay may be split in different parts. Is it advisable to wait untill perhaps the end of the week and try again, being with no luck so far!!???
thereuare Posted May 27, 2008 Report Posted May 27, 2008 Your previous priceline win for the first nite of this stay was for the month of June, but the dates above are for Aug2-Aug6. thereuare Posted May 27, 2008 Report Posted May 27, 2008 Is it advisable to wait untill perhaps the end of the week and try again, being with no luck so far!!???Nobody knows if rates will go up or down in the next week, but i woudn't wait to bid again. What makes you think they'll come down in the next week? If you wait and you're rejected, you then have even less time to figure out a back-up plan.Do you have a back-up cancellable reservation? If so, where and how much? If not, what is the best rate you're able to find thru conventional booking channels (use our BetterChecker to assist in your rate search) for the above stay?Rates are high for your dates above and i think you're likely going to have to compromise somewhere... price, star rating, or location (ie- staying outside of the city)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. scroogeduck Posted May 27, 2008 Author Report Posted May 27, 2008 Ok, so what to do if we would spend $200/night (excluding tax)? Can be both 3* or 4*. Location just outside NYC is ok (for instance NJ), but should have easy access to Manhattan. Prefer Manhattan, so what is a realistic price range to think about? See above mentioned zones. No cancellable option. If we book somewhere, that's it. We won't go to the trouble to cancel. So we want to check all options through either PRICELINE and HOTWIRE first.Greetz
thereuare Posted May 27, 2008 Report Posted May 27, 2008 The idea of a finding a cancellable back-up isn't just so that you have something to fall back upon, it's so that you have a realistic idea of what rates are during your stay... how else can you come up with a reasonable expectation for a maximum bid (other than what you want to pay)I'd guess you're looking at $250+, maybe even closer to $300+ for the nites above at a 3* or better hotel. (can you find a better rate than $300+ at a 3* or higher hotel?)What appears to be the Hyatt on the Hudson is available thru HOTWIRE for $212/nite, and that has easy access to Manhattan (especially Downtown), and you may be able to do a bit better via PRICELINE, although not be able to target this hotel in particular (the Doubletree is the other likely possibility in jersey city when using PRICELINE) Hyatt's website is down at the moment so i can't look-up just how good of a rate this is, if at all. However, this would still leave the nites of 6/4-6/6 open, which will likely be very expensive. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. scroogeduck Posted May 27, 2008 Author Report Posted May 27, 2008 Hello, through hotelrooms365.com I was able to book a "double pod" for $180 (without rebate), even though I called the hotel last night and couldn't get a reservation for these same nights. I know the Pod is a 2* hotel, but gets only good reviews on tripadvisor. For this star rating I'm willing to pay this amount, because I know I'm going to be somewhere clean with a private bathroom.Dates are 02/06-05/06 (3 nights) for $520.98. The tax added is $72.94, so a total of $593.92 was charged. Rebate is $20.I'll keep trying PRICELINE and HOTWIRE for the remaining dates (05/06-08/06) and let you know how it goes.
scroogeduck Posted June 6, 2008 Author Report Posted June 6, 2008 Hey there, wanted to give you an update on how it went. No luck through either Priceline or hotwire for 06/05-06/08. Booked the Gild Hall through Quikbook and am very impressed. Will try the Priceline or HOTWIRE links on this site again for 06/21-06/23. What is the budget to keep in mind for these dates, seeking accomodation near JFK airport.Greetz.....
