woodyywood Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 I have been unable to identify a hotel that matches the criteria for this offer: 2.5* Ft Lauderdale (Beach) Dates: 6/05-6/10/08$66 a nightAmenities:BeachfrontPoolBusiness CenterLaundryRestaurantMy best guess would be the Courtyard by Marriott, since this is the only 2.5 star hotel that I know of on the BEACH. Do they have other 2.5 star hotels beachfront offered by Hotwire? I have seen completed listings for Priceline in the 80.00 range on this forum that identifies this hotel as a 2.5 star hotel on the beach. So I am wondering which hotel this is, and what should I use, priceline or hotwire to get this hotel? If I use Hotwire and it is indeed the Courtyard, the 14.00 a night savings would be great for the 5 night stay. I would really appreciate your opinion. Thanks,Scott
thereuare Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding! The property above has not yet been identified, and while the Courtyard seems to fit, i'm not certain as most Courtyard properties are typcially rated 3 stars by HOTWIRE.Are you looking for this particular hotel, as there is a higher rated 3* in the same zone for just $7 more per nite than this one. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. woodyywood Posted May 20, 2008 Author Report Posted May 20, 2008 Thank you for looking into it. Yes, I am looking for just this hotel. I am nervous of the 3 star rating with the clipper in that category and definitely do not want to stay there. Do you suggest I go to priceline and bid the 80.00 like everyone else has on this forum or roll the dice with the 2.5 star hotel with hotwire? I am real curious as to what hotel hotwire is offering beachfront for only 65 dollars a night. Like I said, ive done some research of the hotels listed on the beach in ft lauderdale, and this one is the only one I know to fit that description. thanks again
woodyywood Posted May 20, 2008 Author Report Posted May 20, 2008 Also, I have looked up some of hotwires partners for the 2.5* rating, and none of these hotels are listed as beachfront. Does anyone on this forum know of any 2.5 star hotels BEACHFRONT at all? I have tried googling beachfront hotels for ft lauderdale with the star ratings with no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated in figuring this hotel out. thanksP.S The key identity rating that makes this one stick out, is that it lists it as BEACHFRONT, and not near the beach. Even the upgrade up to the 3* hotels lists as a (walk or near beach symbol???)Again, as explained previously, I do not want to risk getting stuck at the clipper with a 3 star rating for a junk hotel in the 3 star category. So finding out what this hotel is on the beach for 65.00 listed as a 2.5 star seems to be quite the challenge.
thereuare Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 The Ocean Sky Resort and Sun Tower by Pelican Beach Resort are both 2.5* rated hotels by HOTWIRE which show the BEACHFRONT icon.Do you suggest I go to priceline and bid the 80.00 like everyone else has on this forum or roll the dice with the 2.5 star hotel with hotwire?I wouldn't try PRICELINE since your 2.5* bid could always be upgraded to a 3* property... for which there is a property at that star level you're trying to avoid.I would sooner do a HOTWIRE search and see if the hotel above appears for the first (or last) nite of your stay and then again for the balance of your stay. If it appears on both searches, and since you're willing to take the risk, i'd sooner take the risk for one nite by purchasing the individual nite in order to "look behind the curtain". If you're happy with the outcome you can then purchase the balance of your stay... if not, you 'deal" with the hotel for one nite and then make altenrate plans for the balance of your stay. Doing this will cost you a few dollars more in HOTWIRE fees, but it reduces your risk from five nites down to one.If you do go the above route, please use our HOTWIRE link for each purchase (ie- click our HOTWIRE link to begin your first purchase, if you're successful and happy with the hotel, return here and click our HOTWIRE link again to begin the second purchase)Let us know your thoughts and/or what you decide to do and how it goes. woodyywood Posted May 20, 2008 Author Report Posted May 20, 2008 Thanks again for all your help. Here is what we decided to do. We decided to take the gamble and use your PRICELINE link and try to get the courtyard like others have done. We put a bid in for 70 and it accepted our bid and upgraded our 2.5 to a 3 star just as you suspected to the clipper hotel. (I thought for sure they would reject the bid and ask us to rebid) However, the good news out of this, since this wasnt what we wanted...the lady at the desk was very pleasant and after sweet talking her and telling her it is our honeymoon (which it is) she offered to upgrade the room to oceanfront king suite for an additional 20 a night. I then kept talking nice and she put me on hold for a minute, came back and upgraded us for free as a wedding gift from her to us...SWEET! So all in all, not bad for 70.00 a night, beachfront with an oceanview. Of course as everyone knows on this site, nothing is a guarantee, and you have to take a risk to try to get what you like. This is what it looks like after using your link:Sheraton Yankee Clipper Beach Resort Ft Lauderdale Beach Area1140 Seabreeze Boulevard Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33316 954-524-5551See Hotel Website View Map and Directions Check-In Date:Thu, Jun 5, 2008 / After 03:00 PMCheck-Out Date:Tue, Jun 10, 2008 / 11:00 AM Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $70.00 Subtotal: $350.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $52.78 Total Charges*: $402.78 THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!
