I am planning a trip to NYC (it will be the first time my wife has been, and it's been a while for me) over Memorial Day Weekend. I'm trying for a 4* hotel in any of the Midtown Zones. I've been watching this board for a while and have tried (unsuccessfully) for a few weeks to bid and win a hotel w/Priceline. I currently have a confirmed cancellable reservation (booked through your link to Quickbook) at the Glid House for the stay at avg rate of $194. Here are my questions: 1. Is it fairly convienient to 'commute' between downtown (financial district) and the major attractions of NYC, thus making my Glid House reservation a good catch? (We are a young couple (early 30's) and are both fit and don't mind walking and a general 'adventure'). 2. If you'd advise against staying at the Glid House (because of location), any suggestions on the best way to bid for a more central 4* hotel on Priceline? I'd like to stay around $200 (or less) per night. On priceline, my highest bid has gotten to $191 (that was two days ago) utilizing a similar bid strategy that you gave to another whose dates are the exact same as mine. I figured that waiting till the last minute to book might yield better results, but it doesn't seem to be making any difference. Thanks for any help, tips, guidance, etc!!!

Sorry i missed the dates in your topic title.

Looking at the "big picture" i think you'll be just fine at the Gild... the price is right (as evident by your similarly priced rejected bids in the midtown area) and you're within walking distance to quite a few different subway lines. Additionally, the reviews have been very good, that this is probably your best value for these dates.

It is a little "out of the way", but you sound as if you don't mind taking a subway ride to the touristy areas, so this should work out just fine for you. If you choose you can continue to try for a 4* hotel in one of the midtown zones, but given the reviews of this property, i would probably cap my bdding at ~$160 or so as i'd sooner be looking to give this new hotel a try.

If you do continue to bid, please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your searches/purchases.
