hokie97 Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 first post here, just registered, so i'll do my best to give all the info....i used the links on the page to PRICELINE and have tried to get a 4* anywhere in manhattan for this coming memorial day weekend. I've made 33 bids this morning in various combinations....gone as low as $142 for Downtown by itself and as high as $185 for Downtown+MTE+Brooklyn+UES+UWS+LIC with no luck. i know it is short notice, but the $185 range is more than half of the suggested retail and others seem to be gettign things for the same weekend in the 140-155 range.i know prices change quickly for a holiday weekend, but do any experienced priceline users and posters have any general tips that might help a newbie? thanks very much!-hokie97
thereuare Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding! It's not clear from your post above, are you including the MTW, Times Square, UM-CPS, and/or MTS zones in your bidding? You mention you tried for anywhere in Manhattan but then your final bid didn't include these zones??What is the best rate you're able to found outside of PRICELINE and HOTWIRE? (use our BetterChecker to assist in your rate search) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
hokie97 Posted May 19, 2008 Author Report Posted May 19, 2008 thanks for the reply....yeah, i tried various combinations of MTW, TS, UMCPS, MTS as well as MTE and DT. i did it in such a way that they were all combined with areas that don't include 4*'s so i could bid multiple times. think i tried 33 different combinations this morning and none worked. the highest price was up to $185 and i see others as recently as a day ago gettign things for as low as $142. i even tried the exact same strategy as another poster a few posts down who got the Barclay with no luck. about the best rate i was able to find with other sites is in the high $200-over $300/night range...but all those seem to be almost rack rates at this point since i have seen many of the same hotels for much less in the past on the same non-bidding websites.i am going to try again tomorrow night and see what i can come up with. i am goign to continue to use the links here and will report any win. any help anyone can give in the meantime is appreciated.
thereuare Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 i did it in such a way that they were all combined with areas that don't include 4*'s so i could bid multiple timesIt's important to not just create multiple bids, but to do so systemactially to make sure you're giving yourself the greatest chance to win as well.Am i correct that your last bid did not include many of the midtown zones. As per your postas high as $185 for Downtown+MTE+Brooklyn+UES+UWS+LIC with no luck NOTE: you didn't include MTW, Times Square, UM-CPS, or MTS at your $185 bids... do you recall how high you did bid in these zones (assuming you included them previously.Let us know the above, as well as your maximum bid, and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.
