Hi

Can anyone offer advise please.

I'm looking for a hotel in Manhattan from 4th November 2008 to 11th November (7 nights)

I know November isn't the cheapest.

Ideally I would like a 4 star hotel (not too bothered in which area) inc taxes I don't really want to go over $300 a night. If it was $200 I would be VERY Happy.

What do you think??

Thanks for replying. So I forgot about my previous post. I actually stayed at Millenium UN after getting a good deal from a local travel agent.

However this time I am definately going to try PRICELINE as we have a longer stay.

Would you advise using the same stragegy that you suggested last time?

I really appreciate the help and advice and apologise for not replying to the previous topic. I understand that this can be annoying to you. Sorry.

Is Downtown acceptable as well, or do you only want to bid the Midtown zones at this point in time?

What is your maximum bid before taxes and fees (NYC tax is ~14% and PRICELINE will add ~$5-6/nite booking fee). Are you willing to go up to your budget at this early before your stay?

Yes Downtown would be fine too.

At the moment can we try maximum of $250 without taxes/fees as I didn't really want to go over $300 per night. Or did you mean it was too early to consider going to the maximum 6 months before my stay??

I expect these dates to be expensive, but since so much can change in 6+ months (ie- economy, business travel, weak dollar bringing over non-US tourists, etc, etc) which affect hotel demand, wasn't sure if you wanted to bid up to your maximum at this point.

If it were me i'd be looking to go as high are $200, maybe $225 if i was looking to 'get this done', at this juncture, but not sure how much time/effort you're willing to put in relative to 'just getting it done'.

Let us know your thoughts regarding current maximum bid and we'll advise accordingly.

Hi

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I'm confused. I read the bidding again within 24 hours topic but I'm still non the wiser.

I Selected 4* MTE and MTW and UM-CPS and Times Square then bid $120.

This was rejected.

So I tried to rebid with $130 but I get the error message "Please change at least one part of your original request"

Is this where I add another zone? If it is which zone do I add. Or did I mess up by originally selecting 4 zones (MTE and MTW and UM-CPS and Times Square )

I'm confused :)

I'm assuming you got the re-bidding straightened out?

It's both early and your bids are low for this time of year, but as noted above, with 6 months between now and your stay, i wouldn't panic and 'chase' anything at this point.

Hi, Thanks for your help so far.

For the rebidding I kept closing the browser and going back through the PRICELINE link.

I had a look at the Priceline calender and saw a winning bid in Nov 2007 for $338 so I'm assuming this would probably be the kind of price area that may win. However I'm prepared to wait a little.

Hi

Yes if you could and don't mind. Can you break down the rebidding concept.

I will continue to try every week and will keep you updated.

Thanks once again for the help so far.

List each zone in NYC and the highest star rating available in each.

To see the highest star rating in each zone, use the following technique from Priceline Re-Bidding Explained:

The way to check what star levels are available in each zone is to open a Priceline page, check ONLY the zone you are inquiring about, and then proceed to the next page (as if you were going to select a zone)... this will give you the available star ratings in that area. You can then hit BACK on your browser, uncheck the current box, check the next box, and repeat the process. It is important to do this before EACH attempt at adding a zone that you really don't want, as new hotels can be added and the star ratings can change at any time. (NOTE: for most users Priceline has updated their interface making the above process easier... simply check a zone and note the highest star rating available within each zone, UNcheck that zone and checkmark the next zone, repeating the process)

We'll then take it from there... if the above confuses you we'll break it down further.

No tsure what your asking here??

By clicking each zone it is possible to see what star ratings are possible. for example Brooklyn grey outs 4 star option.

What confuses me is your strategies. I.e Where you say

Select 4* MTE and MTW and UM-CPS and Times Square...

Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...

So I select MTE and MTW and UM-CPS and Times Square then put my bid of $120 in. When this is rejeted I have to add a zone. So I add ESB and MSG and Downtown and rebid $120. But then I can no longer go back and add or remove zones.

I have been closing the browser and starting all over again.

Or are you saying that the only 4 star zones are MTE and MTW and UM-CPS and Times Square and ESB and MSG and Downtown

Therefore each time I am rejected I can add any other zone as tey have NO 4*star hotels??

Then by adding eg Brooklyn as it has no 4* hotel I can increase the bid as an extra zone has been adding.

Sorry if I appear SLOW!!! :)

This is correct:

Therefore each time I am rejected I can add any other zone as tey have NO 4*star hotels??

Then by adding eg Brooklyn as it has no 4* hotel I can increase the bid as an extra zone has been adding.

... but two clarifications:

1) not applicable for NYC but worth mentioning for any future bidding you do or for any one else following along, it's not a just a zone that doesn't have 4* hotels, but zones that only have star levels lower than 4 stars. So if there was a zone which didn't have 4 star hotels, but did have 5* or Resort properties, woudl not be a re-bid zone since your 4* bid is the minimum you are willing to accept, and your 4* bid could be upgarded to a Resort or 5 star property.

2) note in your example, that by adding Brooklyn (which currently doesn't have any 4 star or higher hotels) to your bid, you couldn't win a hotel there since no hotels there meet your star level requirements, and this is why it's refered to as a "re-bid"

Does this clarify things a bit?

Are you willing to spend $300+ for a non-refundable 3* HOTWIRE hotel at this point when you've only tried bidding on PRICELINE for a 4* hotel up to $250? (or have you tried higher)

Why not book the 6 Columbus Circle thru Quickbook as a back-up... cheaper, and most likely nicer, than any of the 3*/3.5* properties above. (and i'm assuming cancellable, the majority of Quickbook hotels are full cancellable... those which aren't are clearly marked as such)

If you'd like us to have a look at the HOTWIRE hotels above please just list the amenities, as you can see when you copy paste the formating gets messed up:

Hotel Amenities

Fitness Center

Guests have access to exercise equipment; an additional charge may apply.Business Center

Guests have access to business equipment and services; an additional charge may apply. High-speed Internet Access

Guestrooms are equipped with high-speed Internet access; an extra charge may apply.

and is much more difficult to read than:

Hotel Amenities

Fitness Center

Business Center

High-speed Internet Access

The way you posted it makes it difficult to see the amenities such as Business Center and Hi-Speed Interent since they're at the end of the line, and we try to minimize making mistakes. :)

I just went for a 6 day stay roughly the same time ( 3-9) and couldn't get what i wanted but i was going for a lower base. Had to split the trip into 4-2 days. got good hotels for 165/145 respectively. You should do better with a higher base.
