lizziebrown Posted May 17, 2008 Report Posted May 17, 2008 Hey there. I am new to the forum, which is great way to learn new things about traveling. My deal is I am Helping my sister move to the Culinary Institute of America. We will arrive at La G. airport on Saturday 6/14 and want to stay in midtown(does not matter which one, just where we can go sightseeing for a while) , but for Sunday night I do not mind moving to another hotel (cheaper and closer to LGA airport). I wanted to try to spend around 150.00 for sat and 70.00 for sunday. Can you help?

lizziebrown Posted May 19, 2008 Author Report Posted May 19, 2008 I would like a 3 but I will go down to a 2 1/2 in the midtown area.
thereuare Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 So you would like to go up to your maximum bid at the 3* level, and if that is rejected, then lower to 2.5 stars? Please confirm and we'll advise accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. lizziebrown Posted May 19, 2008 Author Report Posted May 19, 2008 yes, that is correct. What do you think?
thereuare Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 Since yesterday PRICELINE has re-defined the NYC zones (essentially dividing MTS into three new zones)Look at the PRICELINE zones and let us know of Chelsea, MSG (madison square garden), and the ESB (empire state building) are "midtown" enough for you and acceptable locations. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. thereuare Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 At the 3* level you have three re-bid zones available. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3* MTE and MTE and Times Square and UM-CPS and ESB and MSG...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* Chelsea and ...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MTE and MTE and Times Square and UM-CPS and ESB and MSG and Chelsea...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. lizziebrown Posted May 20, 2008 Author Report Posted May 20, 2008 Ok, I tried the information on the bids you gave me. I got rejected from all of them. What should I do.
thereuare Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 That was the maximum bid you had set, which for this time of year, is not a very high probability bet.At this point you can:-wait it out and try again-increase your maximum bid-lower your star rating-see if you can find anything acceptable thru traditional booking channels (use our BetterChecker to assist in your rate search)While not in midtown, while not necessarily the most convenient location, you may want to consider the Desmond Tutu Center for $175/nite. It includes continental breakfast and has been getting very good reviews. Using our link to Quickbook (please use this link) it's cancellabel up until a day or two before your stay, so at the very least you can use this as a back-up while you continue to try PRICELINE.Does that work for your needs? If you want to continue bidding and change any aspect of your bid (maximum bid, zone(s), star rating, etc) let us know and we'll revise the strategy above accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. lizziebrown Posted May 22, 2008 Author Report Posted May 22, 2008 Well it was better bidding today. I got the Grand Hyatt for 150.00Thanks for your help. This is a great board.
thereuare Posted May 23, 2008 Report Posted May 23, 2008 Congratulations on your win!Glad to hear of your success... what a difference a day makes :)This is a nice hotel with a good location for getting around the city, virtually right on top of Grand Central Station. As i often do, i recommend Ess-A-Bagel in this area for breakfast one day... a short walk from your hotel (Third Ave at 51st St). One of the best bagels in the city and makes for a great, inexpensive, breakfast among locals.Thank you for sharing your PRICELINE win with the board.Enjoy your stay.
