Tried in this order:

$9 Compact

$20 Convertible

$12 Mid-Size

$15 Standard

$12 Economy

and then gave up.

I have a Hertz coupon that comes out to $128 total with taxes, approx $23/day for Compact. Since I have some time, I'm going to keep trying.

Hotwire is $24.95/day for an economy car, plus taxes it comes out to $126 and change. It's about the same as my Hertz coupon but I get bonus airline miles (United) with the coupon.

So it appears for an apples-to-apples comparison you're only bidding half of the best available rate you're able to find elsewhere? Are the miles worth that much to you that you would be willing to accept a 40%, 30%, or 25% discount to your next best available rate?
