Not sure what the significance of "west" is ? Thanks !PS : Trip Advisor gives it 4 out of 5 stars
thereuare Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 If you look at HOTWIRE zones for this region you'll see that there is an Airprot zone as well as a zone West of the Airport (thus the name Airport West). HOTWIRE puts the center of this zone at 5.5 miles from the Airport, so there are some hotels which could be 8-9 miles away, and these hotels may not offer shuttle service... so if no Shuttle icon is shown, then there is a very good chance that it's not offered at that property. Is a shuttle something you need for this stay? What are the date(s) of your stay? MiaSRN Posted May 15, 2008 Author Report Posted May 15, 2008 Hello, Yes, a shuttle would be very beneficial. But I thought if it was close enough, we could always call a cab. Since you mention some of the "airport west" could be 8-9 miles away, that makes me think differently on this. I guess I'm suprised a 3.5* wouldn't offer a shuttle service. I am now looking at bidding on a 3* with shuttle (which from research on this forum, I strongly suspect is Wingate). We only need one night (Aug 2). Thank you for your help---much appreciated.
MiaSRN Posted May 15, 2008 Author Report Posted May 15, 2008 By the way....a bit confused now. I just used the HOTWIRE link you supplied in your post to go check out the zones. Is the HW website format changed from last night ? It looks different from what I saw yesterday ?
thereuare Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 The hotels in the Airport West zone may not necessarily be considered "airprot hotels" (by the properties themselves) and therefore don't offer shuttle service. Once you start getting more than a few miles from the airport, shuttle service become more sparse, as a 15-20 minute trip each way can mean 30-40 minutes for a shuttle to roundtrip the airport run, which could be too long for somebody waiting at the airport who just missed the hotel shuttle and needs to wait for the next one (upsetting a guest before they even reach the property).Yes, the HOTWIRE "splash" page with all the offers on it is different since yesterday... but clicking thru to the details of an offer is the same. The new format is a little "greyed out" and not as bright as the previous version, we'll see if stays this way or if it eventually gets 'colorized'. I'm sure it'll just take some getting used to.Thanks for using our HOTWIRE link for your purchase.Let us know what you end up with or if we can be of further help. MiaSRN Posted May 15, 2008 Author Report Posted May 15, 2008 I totally see what you mean about how the shuttle could take quite awhile if the hotel is too far from the airport. I will keep this in mind in the future when considering "orlando airport west" bids. I did end up using your HOTWIRE link, and bid $59 on a 3* which ended up being Wingate Inn for Aug 2. This one is only about 2 miles or less from the airport and has a shuttle. Thanks for all your help.
MiaSRN Posted May 15, 2008 Author Report Posted May 15, 2008 Hi....Just wanted to post my experience with a successful bid. It was for one night of Aug 2, 2008 for a 3* near Orlando airport for $59. Just got this today. Description taken from the HOTWIRE link on these boards (as of today, the HW website looks a bit different in format) :"This midscale establishment offers more than just the basics in style, comfort and customer service."Indicates 51% savings ($51)Amenities include: airport shuttle, fitness center, pool, business center, high speed internet accessTrip advisor reviews give rating of 4 out of 5I got it for $59 because I hesitated the first time in bidding when it was $49 and it went up $10. Kicking myself for waiting a few hours, but still got a good price.
