I am trying to get a hotel in NYC for the weekend of 5/17-5/18 and havent had any luck so far. I have tried your tips such as selecting Times square as the area and then adding rebid zones and increasing my bid. I bid upto $210 for 4* with no success :) Please help

I'm in the same situation myself. I've been bidding for the last week -- starting with one zone and increasing further.

I understand that it's graduation weekend at Columbia -- can't figure out why the big box hotels are booked out.

Any advice appreciated:

Looking for 1 room for 2 nights - May 16 - 18th - 2 adults

All zones in Manhattan (no preference)

Will go down to 2-1/2 star

Hoping to get a room for under $200

Can shift hotels if that's a better idea. -- Sorry to jump on the same thread but I've been going crazy!

Yes, I was trying to get a hotel in the Times square zone and so used Brooklyn, Upper east and Upper west as rebid zones since they dont have any 4 * hotels in that area. I am going to try the other Midtown locations as well today, maybe that will help? What is the average rate for a 4* at this time of the year? I am hoping to stay below the $200 range.

BTW I have been using your PRICELINE link

At the 4* level you actually have FOUR re-bid zones (not three)... are you able to figure out the other re-bid zone? (Priceline Re-Bidding Explained) Feel free to confirm with the board or ask questions if you're unsure.

As far as your bidding goes, please let us know exactly which zone(s) you're willing to bid and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow... although i will add that inventory looks very tight and i think $200 may be tough.

I am willing to look at MTW, MTS, MTE besides the Times SQ/Theatre district... at this point I am desperate.. if 4 * is not going to work I am also willing to look for 3*.. any help is much appreciated.

BTW, I did realise that there are 4 rebid zones

What about that UM-CPS zone... did you want to include that as well?

I'm doubtful you're going to have success at $200 or less for a 4* or a 3* property... we'll certainly give it a try, but to make a sensible maximum bid, why dont' you figure out your best deal outside of the opaque providers and then determine your maximum bid based upon your next best alternative.

I included the UM-CPS zone as well and didnt have any success with the 4* $210 bid. Pease help. At this point I am willing to increase my maximum bid to $300 as well.

FYI,

I was looking for 5/17 - 5/19. So, I did it on single nights. Got Hilton **** on 53rd & 6th for $120 on Sunday. Absolutely, no success yet in getting Saturday night so far.

Congratulations. Unfortunately I need it only for sat night, just a weekend trip to the city. I have tried upto $245 so far for the Times square area with no success :)

Given the difficulty (and expense) of this nite do you also want to include Downtown? (have you included this zone yet?)

Also, at what point do you want to consider a 3 star?

My preference order is

4* in Midtown (all locations) under $300

3* in Midtown (all locations) under $300

4* in Midtown (all locations) maximum upto $425

Since we re spending only one night in the city, I prefer to stay close to all the activity.

BTW why is it so difficult to find the hotels for this weekend? any special events happening in the city? I have been looking at the priceline site for the past 2.5 weeks and havent been successful.. of course earlier I was trying to stay under the $200 range for 4*..
