Hi

Planning a trip to ny July 15 - 19. Will be in the Tribeca district. Was wondering what I should expect as pricing for a 3 star hotel. What would you suggest I start bidding at? I am willing to go up to $200 if necessary.

Would appreciate any guidance. This is my first time using PRICELINE.

Thanks

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Note the boundaries of the Downtown PRICELINE zone... it is much larger than Tribecca, and i would guess that odds favor you most likely end up in the Downtown/Financial area of the zone... is this acceptable?

Then would you actually want to bid all acceptable zones in hopes of getting the lowest priced 4* hotel in any of the acceptable zones (or exclude any zones where they may be a 4* hotel you're trying to avoid)

Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll suggest a strategy accordingly.

Thought I would get my feet wet and give priceline a whirl.

Started with only Downtown then added Midtown South and then time square.

Started at $160 and worked my way up to $179.

I would guess that I am under priced - no success.

Can you help with advice on how best to proceed?

Thanks in advance

Did you try for a 4* or a 3* hotel?

Did you purposely exlclude the MTE, MTW, and UM-CPS zones from your bidding as you dont' wish to stay there?

Let us know exactly which zones you're willing to accept, your maximum bid, and whether you prefer trying for a 4* first up to your limit or for a less expensive 3* hotel... we'll then be able to outline a strategy for you to follow.

Hi

I tried only 4*.

My wife is exhibitibg at a gallery in Tribeca this week. I really don`t have a problem with anywhere in Manhatten, but thought downtown was interresting, little Italy, china town and close to Tribeca.

With the subway, really any Manhatten zone is ok.

Went 4* to avoid `very small rooms` am willing to pay the premium up to $200. However if I can get a resonalble 3* at 160 compared to a 4 at $220 I will take the 3*.

Hipe this provides enough clarification.

Thanks again

Michael

I suspect that you'll see bette rates in the weeks to come, but would book a cancellable back-up in the meantime (try Quickbook and/or GTA Hotels for cancelable back-ups)

Do you want to bid up to $200 at this point in time, and of so and it's rejected, do you want to try for a 3* at this point in time, or will you only look to lower your star rating as you get close to your date?

Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option?

Hi

Thanks for the advice.

Tried today, always at 4*, working my way by adding one zone at a time 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 and 9. Bidding from $170 thru to $195.

I don't mind working at this for a few weeks before dropping to 3*.

I will reserve something cancellable as you suggest.

I am always using the PRICELINE links here.

Appreciate your help and I will let you know as things progress.

Will perhaps split as you suggested before dropping a star.... but not until I work at this for a week or 2.

Is my staying under $200 a reasonable expectation for 4* at this time of year?

Thanks

Michael
