Best standard rates for Resorts on these dates are $149 at the Sheraton, though a non-refundable 21-day advance AAA rate is $99. Westin Our Lucaya starts at $189 with NR AAA rates starting at $139.

I have been watching rates at these hotels for a while for this trip. We're actually flying in on July 2. The Our Lucaya resorts have not been offering any published promotional or AAA rates for 7/2-7/5, so I'm not sure if they can be booked through PL for those dates. I tried bids up to $110 during the July 4th weekend.

I'm a Starwood Platinum elite guest and am using their Cash and Points promo to get my first three nights per night for 4,000 SPG points + $60 cash. Since the Cash and Points promo is the same cost for the Westin and Sheraton, we've chosen to stay at the Westin for 7/2-7/5. We'll have to move in the middle of the trip, but we'll get to check out both hotels on this trip and will be eligible for my Starwood benefits during the Westin stay. As the trip date approaches, we'll check Priceline again for possible availability.

I'm seeing that Hotwire is offering rates that appear to break down like this during the July 4th weekend. (4* variations depending on selected date):

$101 Crowne Plaza 4*

$165 Sheraton 4*

$167 Westin 4 1/2*

Though Hotwire categorizes the CP as a 4*, PL categorizes it as a 3*. It cannot qualify as a Resort for PL since it is not beachfront. Its beach access is only by a shuttle service.

Great first post! Thanks for taking the time to add all the details of your thinking and the effort the bid required. It's a good example of 'working around' tough dates and how even if things don't seem to be working out at first, it is often possible to use a variety of sources to make it work.
