NEO_Vega Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 I have been planning a trip to NYC to a concert in Uniondale and some sightseeing with my 15 year old and her friend. Needing to stay 3 nights, and with the help of Betterbidding and other websites, I avoided making some really bad decisions. Holland Motor Inn was going to be my cheap fall back at $109/night with AAA discount.I have been very successful with HOTWIRE in the past, but I wasn't getting anything interesting no matter how I searched.I finally decided on a strategy of staying in Parsippany the Friday night we arrive at around $40 and then staying somewhere nice and safe in NJ and drive to a PATH station and park for a modest fee. The Holland at $109 was what I was trying to beat with the convenience of waling to a PATH station. My strategy was also to stay Sat and Sun night, because it looked like I might get a better deal from places that target the business traveler. So I started out shamelessly bidding $47 for a 3 star in Jersey City / Newark. I was going to start at $55, but I thought , I am just starting.I got the news that my bid was rejected... no surprise...THEN.. a little HINT IN RED.. If I bid $13 more I might have a better chance, or something to that effect. Gee. I am being told to bid $60! I realized that I would be delighted with $60 and that it would more than make up for the extra hassle and parking near a train.Hilton Newark Airport $60.002 nights (7/26 - 7/28 Sat Sun)Subtotal: $120.00Taxes & Service Fees: $27.51Total Charges*: $147.51I noticed someone else posted a winning bid for Hilton Newark Airport at $60 so that must be their current magic number.
NEO_Vega Posted May 8, 2008 Author Report Posted May 8, 2008 I just realized that I assumed that I wouldn't have to pay for parking. $8/day isn't much for parking with in/out privileges. But between that and paying for internet and no included breakfast of anykind, I realize I am going to be nickeled and dimed with other costs during my stay.
