fooman76 Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 I'm need help in bidding for either a 4* or 3* hotel for dates 5/23 - 5/26 in the Millennium Park area or North Michigan Park - River North Area.Maybe it's the dates I'm requesting for but I can't seem to get any bites for similar bids I see on the forum. I've started at $60 and up to $90 for 3* to 4* and no luck. Do I need to bid higher for those dates? Or should I look for 2* in the same area?My main preference is location followed by hotel rating with a budget of up to $100 per night.
thereuare Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 Please follow-up your previous Priceline Pittsburgh thread with whatever you ended up doing for that stay... then bump this thread and we'll have a look at the above.Thanks. fooman76 Posted May 8, 2008 Author Report Posted May 8, 2008 Sorry, I forgot to update my previous post. Good thing my memory hasn't faded. Thanks for the reminder. :)
thereuare Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 I'm not certain of your preferences... are the two zones above (NMA and Loop) both equally acceptable or are you looking to bid higher in one zone before try the others? Also, are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3* or is the least expensive 3 star or better hotel your preference? fooman76 Posted May 8, 2008 Author Report Posted May 8, 2008 Hi! I forget how big the Chicago blocks are. I live in NY and the Ave blocks are long while the blocks between streets are short. I want to visit Old Navy Pier, Millennium Park and Mag Mile. That said, I think both zones are equal? Some of the hotels seem to border between zones. Basically, I want to spend no more than my maximum budget of $100 per night whether it be a 3* or 4*. So I guess the least expensive 3 star or better hotel is my preference. Thanks!
AaronJB Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 Chicago is much more compact than NYC. If you get a hotel in the Loop and want to walk to the Michigan Ave. area, it is - at the very worst - probably a 35 min walk. Most hotels in the loop are a 10-15-20 minute walk from Michigan Ave.I'd much rather recommend the Zoo (free) than Navy Pier, as the Pier is nothing but an overpriced tourist trap - blah restaurants, souvenir booths and pricey rides. If you have to go there, go there for a 15 minute walk in the morning to enjoy the view and go on about your day elsewhere.HOTWIRE has a 3.5* in the North Michigan Ave/Water Tower/Gold Coast area for $109 with the amenities: Restaurant, Fitness, Spa, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Golf, Tennis. This may be the Hotel Indigo and, if so, it's a very nice hotel. Hotwire also has a 3.5* boutique in the Loop for $99 that appears to be the Allegro, but I wouldn't recommend that as that is a rather out-of-the-way location in the Loop. You could probably get a 4* in either zone on PRICELINE for around $85, based upon the prices I'm seeing. Please use the site's links to HOTWIRE or PRICELINE if you decide to book using either service.
thereuare Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 At the 3* level you have no re-bid zones available.I would try as follows:Select 3* NMA...Bid $70, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 3* Loop...Bid $70, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 3* NMA and Loop...Bid $75The above may be a bit low, but i would try the above first given the 2 weeks before your stay. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes and if rejected we'll revise to try again in 24 hours. fooman76 Posted May 9, 2008 Author Report Posted May 9, 2008 Hi, I did everything as you instructed. No luck with any of the bids. Should I do the same thing but bid higher? Thanks again for the help. I'm curious to see how this will play out in the end.
thereuare Posted May 10, 2008 Report Posted May 10, 2008 24 hours after your last rejected bid...Select 3* NMA...Bid $80, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 3* Loop...Bid $80, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 3* NMA and Loop...Bid $85Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. fooman76 Posted May 11, 2008 Author Report Posted May 11, 2008 All rejected. Seeing how it's getting closer to the date, should I start my bids higher? I'm assuming being the Memorial weekend, most hotels are charging a premium. I'm wondering if I can even get a 3* for my max budget of $100. Maybe I should consider 2.5* at this point?
thereuare Posted May 12, 2008 Report Posted May 12, 2008 The two 3.5* HOTWIRE hotels mentioned above are still available, so i would continue bidding:Select 3* NMA...Bid $90, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 3* Loop...Bid $90, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 3* NMA and Loop...Bid $95The Allegro is still available for $96 thru HOTWIRE, so if the above is rejected i'm not sure if you would prefer that property or lowering your star rating. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. fooman76 Posted May 13, 2008 Author Report Posted May 13, 2008 No luck. All rejected again. I'm going to lower my rating to 2.5*
thereuare Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 Would the Allegro not work for your needs... it's now just $89/nite on HOTWIRE? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
fooman76 Posted May 16, 2008 Author Report Posted May 16, 2008 While the price of the Allegro is tempting, I couldn't justify paying even that price from the reviews I read on tripadvisor, particularly the small size of the rooms and the construction going on. That said I ended up booking directly for the Fairfield Inn at the AAA rate of $130 a night which included free breakfast and internet. Yes, it's more than what I wanted to spend but I was really wearing of possibly staying at the Holiday Inn at the Mart which was rated a 3* by Priceline and zoned in the same area I wanted to stay. Looking on the map, it was really far away from everything and I would had been disappointed if I paid $100 a night for it. Oh well. Not a great deal in the end, but it was worth a try. Thanks again for your help!
