lisantie Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 We are going to NY 05/13-05/18 and found a 3.5* for $289 in Midtown Central on HOTWIRE. We are wondering what hotel this is. We are bidding on Priceline for under $250 and have not had any luck. Thanks!
lisantie Posted May 5, 2008 Author Report Posted May 5, 2008 We are traveling to NY 05/13-05/18. We want a 4* hotel in either TS or MTW and have been unsuccessful bidding on PRICELINE up to $230.00. How much can I expect to bid to get a 4* hotel in these zones? With time growing short, I am not sure if I should just lower our expectations and bid on a 3* or add more zones.
thereuare Posted May 6, 2008 Report Posted May 6, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding! Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. What are the amenities associated with the HOTWIRE property you're being offered? Would you take this or try bidding for a 3* first on PRICELINE?Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option?Do you have a back-up reseration anywhere? (if so, where and how much)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. lisantie Posted May 6, 2008 Author Report Posted May 6, 2008 We do not have a back-up reservation. We would consider splitting our days, what do you suggest? The amenities being offered on the Hotwire deal for Midtown Cenral $289 for 3.5* is restaurants, fitness center, and high speed internet. Yes, we would try to bid on Priceline for a 3* for a lesser price. Any recommendations you have will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
thereuare Posted May 6, 2008 Report Posted May 6, 2008 What is your preference... splitting the bid for a 4* hotel but likely having to change hotels (and the possibility that you only get a 4* hotel for one leg of your stay) OR lowering your star rating to a 3* and trying for the complete stay at one property? lisantie Posted May 6, 2008 Author Report Posted May 6, 2008 Our main objective is to stay under $250 per night. We would be willing to break up the stay to get a 4*, but if you think it is more advantageous to get a 3*, than we can go that route instead.
thereuare Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 Whether to split the bid to try for a 4* hotel vs. trying the complete stay at a 3 star property for a lesser amount comes down to personal preference... comparing the cost involved to how much you 'get out of' a hotel during vacation. Some would split their stay in order to save $10... others woudln't do it for $100; likewise some only want a 4* and are willing to pay any price for it, while others couldn't care less and just want a bed to sleep on.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. (although i'll add that at first glance i'm not sure how much SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID is going to help as rates seem high throughout the stay)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. lisantie Posted May 7, 2008 Author Report Posted May 7, 2008 Thinking about it further, I think we would just rather stay at a 3* hotel and not have the hassel of having to switch hotels.
thereuare Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 I just re-read this thread again from the beginning and forgot to ask something i meant to ask earlier...Are you still only bidding Times Square and MTW? Is there a reason you're not including the MTE, MTS and/or UM-CPS zones in your bidding? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. lisantie Posted May 7, 2008 Author Report Posted May 7, 2008 We really only want to stay in TS or MTW, but if we have to, we will stay in Central Park or MTE.
thereuare Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 Do you want to add those other zones now or do you still only want to bid the TS and MTW zones? Also, i assume you mean the UM-CPS zone? (and not Central Park)... what about the MTS zone?Have you been to NYC before? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
lisantie Posted May 8, 2008 Author Report Posted May 8, 2008 We will take any zone except for Brooklyn and Soho. Please advise on how to proceed. Thanks!

lisantie Posted May 9, 2008 Author Report Posted May 9, 2008 Okay, followed your instructions, even went up to $300 instead of $250 for 3* in MTE, MTW, UM-CPS, MTS and Times Square. I do have a cancellable reservation for $341 a night (just in case), but am hoping to get something cheaper. What do you suggest I do?
lisantie Posted May 10, 2008 Author Report Posted May 10, 2008 No luck on the bidding :) I used your PRICELINE link and followed the instructions. Should I bid up to $300? Tomorrow is my last chance to bid, otherwise I have to use my backup reservation. Please advise.
thereuare Posted May 10, 2008 Report Posted May 10, 2008 I see above your back-up hotel is $341/nite... which hotel is it and is this "all-in" or are taxes add on top of that? (so we know exactly what number it is we're trying to beat) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
lisantie Posted May 11, 2008 Author Report Posted May 11, 2008 It is $341.60 per night, but plus taxes and everything the total comes to $1954.03. So for 5 nights it breaks down to $390.81 per night w/taxes.The hotel is the Park Central New York.
thereuare Posted May 11, 2008 Report Posted May 11, 2008 I've searched various sources and date combinations and don't see anything that comes close to your back-up hotel. You're still nearly $100 away from your back-up hotel... how high would you be willing to go for an 'opaque' 3 star property? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
lisantie Posted May 11, 2008 Author Report Posted May 11, 2008 Sounds like I should just keep what I have. Are you familiar with that hotel?
thereuare Posted May 12, 2008 Report Posted May 12, 2008 You can read reviews HERE.My opinion is to increase your maximum bid for a 3* property. You're still $100 away from your back-up hotel... if you could save $25 per nite over your back-up hotel, would it be worth the 'unknown'? What if you could save $50/nite? $75/nite?
