robertaking01 Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 Need help identifying:3.5 Star ChicagoNorth Michigan Avenue - Water Tower-Gold CoastDates June 6-8, 2008Shows fitness, restaurant, business, high speed internet, golf, tennis, spaRetail = $239I believe that the 4-starMagnificent Mile AreaWith fitness, restaurant, business and high speed internet for $149 is the Sheraton (same dates) - shows retail price at $189.Thanks!Sorry - I did not mention that the HOTWIRE price for the 3.5 star NMA is $149 night. Thanks again.
thereuare Posted May 6, 2008 Report Posted May 6, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding! The 3.5* has not yet been identified. The retail rate is matching up with the Allerton, but this 'clue' is often incorrect as HOTWIRE's stance is that this is the rate for a property of this star rating in the zone... not necessarily the hotel you are purchasing. The 4* Mag Mile property doesn't match the Sheraton, so i'm doubtful that is the property you're being offered. It does match the Hard Rock hotel, the Hyatt Regency, and the Westin River North... so any of these would be likely candidates, although best guess is the one you're seeing here is the Hard Rock. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. robertaking01 Posted May 7, 2008 Author Report Posted May 7, 2008 Thanks so much for the help! The 3.5* NMA dropped to $119 today. I called the Allerton, and was told that it does provide Spa Services (from outside vendor). I agree that it looks like the Allerton.Should I go ahead at $119, or should I wait? The dates are June 6-8, 2008.
thereuare Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 ...or should I wait?See the related "bid early or late" link in our PRICELINE FAQ. How would you feel if you bought this now and the price went down after your purchase vs. if you did nothing and then this property went up in price or disappeared entilrely from the HOTWIRE offerings? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know whatever you decide to do or if we can be of further help. robertaking01 Posted May 7, 2008 Author Report Posted May 7, 2008 I have never been to Chicago. Assuming that the 3.5 * is the Allerton for $116 (today) and that the 4* is the Hard Rock at $154 (today), which is a better choice for a single female traveler in her 30's? Any advice is very much appreciated!
thereuare Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 I'll leave that to AaronJB who will hopefully answer once he sees this thread. But here are some previous comments i found of his regarding each:Hard Rock - The hotel's location is also very nice - it's just down the street from both the Chicago Architecture Foundation and Wendella Boat Tour docks (both on the Michigan Ave. bridge.) The Michigan ave. shopping area starts just over the bridge. Millennium Park and the Art Institute are a couple of blocks South of the hotel.Allerton - older property with mixed reviews, but fantastic location directly on Michigan Ave.Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. robertaking01 Posted May 9, 2008 Author Report Posted May 9, 2008 I really appreciate the help. Yesterday, Hotwire took the 3.5* NMA off, so I hit your link to PRICELINE and successfully bid the 4* Hyatt Regency for $134 for June 6-8. (This is not the right thread, but as for bidding, after being turned down for 4*'s in NMA and the Loop even having bid up to $148 for those zones in the past 5 days, I started with NMA 4* for $149, then was asked to add $25. Staying at 4*, I went to $151 and added the free zone. Then, I backed down to $134, and added the Loop, knowing that the Hotel Burnham is being offered on Hotwire now for $134 for those same dates.)Alas, the 3.5 NMA is back today at $119, but I am very satisfied with the 4* Hyatt for the price.I would not have been able to get such a good deal without your help!
