Kozachka Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 I linked to PRICELINE from this forum and bid $12 for a standard size car for 5 days. Bid was rejected but I was given an option to raise my bid. Sensing a close deal I bid $13 and failed. SUV for $15 was a no-go either. Will try again in a little while. Am considering skipping car rental all together or renting just for the last two days.My research shows that I can rent a standard size car for $125 per week from Thrifty directly so am not willing to pay much more than $13/day through PL.
thereuare Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 Thanks for trying your bids with our PRICELINE link.Just as a point of reference, and not sure of your own plans, but we absolutely needed a car in Oahu (we stayed at the Prince)... we drove up to North Shore (we were too early for the big waves but stopped at Dole Factory on the way, Motsumot's for shaved ice, shrimp trucks for lunch, and Lanakai Beach on the way home)... also drove out to Diamon Head and walked to the top of the crater. There is also a Wal-Mart near Waikiki Beach which was useful for brining soda and snacks back to the hotel much cheaper than buying them at the tourist shops. As well, we used the car to get to/from the airport which would have been a fairly expensive cab ride. Also, note in our support page that we're an affiliate of Thrifty so please use our link if you go that route. Given that you can probably reserve the car with no commitment (they usually don't even require a credit card) i would do so just to protect yourself at this price in case it goes up (you can always cancel and re-book if it goes down) and you know exactly what you're trying to beat should you continue with the opaque suppliers.Just my two cents. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
