rninerie Posted April 26, 2008 Report Posted April 26, 2008 I am new to all of this (thank goodness I found this great forum). I don't quite understand Hotwire. Do you actually get to bid or name your own price like on Priceline or not? I went to the Hotwire site (via your HOTWIRE link here) and it just shows the prices for the hotels which don't seem like that great of a deal. I do understand the concept of figuring out which hotel belongs to which listing via your list based on the stars, areas and amenities. For the record I am looking for a hotel (hopefully less than $175 per night) for June 19, 20 in NYC. Somewhere close to the action, not afraid of taking the subway or buses. Thanks for any help you can offer!
thereuare Posted April 26, 2008 Report Posted April 26, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding! There is no bidding on HOTWIRE, as you've observed, they will show you the price of the hotel but not the name. However, while you state the prices 'didn't seem like too great of a deal', this is a very busy (and therefore a very EXPENSIVE) time in NYC... have you researched rates for these dates already? (use our BetterChecker to assist in your rate search)What is the best deal you're currently able to find thru conventional methods for your dates? (also, i'm not clear if this is for a one nite stay or two)Please confirm your dates and the best rate you're able to find thru conventional methods for this stay and we'll advise accordingly. rninerie Posted April 26, 2008 Author Report Posted April 26, 2008 Thanks for your response. I did a little more research @ better checker as you recommended and went ahead and bit the bullet and made a reservation through Hotwire (via this web site). I am staying two nights and I had them wrong the first time, it's June 20th and 21st.I "bid" on a 4 star hotel in mid town east with the amenities of: Fitness, business, restaurant, high speed internet and tennis near by. I was hoping for the Grand Hyatt but got the Intercontinental for $222 per night June 20 and 21st. Looks like a decent place, probably a little stuffy for myself and two teenage sons, but we aren't that picky. Great website, thanks for your help!
thereuare Posted April 26, 2008 Report Posted April 26, 2008 Congratulations on your win!Thank you for sharing it with the board and for using our HOTWIRE link to begin your purchase. For breakfast one morning, try heading to Ess-A-Bagel on Third Ave between at 51st St... close to this hotel and makes for a very nice, and inexpensive, breakfast. One of the best bagels in the city and you dine with the locals :)Enjoy your stay. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
