stl-samiam Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 Using the re-bid method, I have gone from $150 up to $190 with no success. I would really like to stay at 4*. I would also like to stay in MTE or CPS.I realize it's over a month until the trip, and I would like to get the arrangements finalized, but I'm not too stressed about it. Should I just wait a few weeks not going over my $190 threshhold, or do I really need to bid higher on a Saturday night over Memorial Day weekend in NYC.I have a hotel for 5/22-5/24 that I got by cashing in Thank you points. Its called the Kimberly and I can stay there for a 3rd night for $265.00+tax so its not really worth it to switch hotels unless I can save some $$.
thereuare Posted April 18, 2008 Report Posted April 18, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding! What is your maximum bid? (how much of a savings vs. the $265 rate do you need to see to make changing hotels worthwhile)Two ideas for a cancellable back up:Gild Hall - $189/nite... located downtown and going thru a 'soft opening', but the reviews have been excellentBeekman Tower - $212/nite... MTE location and although the reviews have turned more mixed since the Affinia has given up ownership, they're still mostly favorableBoth are thru Quickbook (please use our links) and are cancellable up until a few days before your stay.If you'd like to continue to bid on PRICELINE let us know your maximum bid, but i will add that if price is a factor, i would consider adding alternate zones (especially since the Kimberly is in MTE.. give you a chance to see a different part of the city)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts. stl-samiam Posted April 28, 2008 Author Report Posted April 28, 2008 "What is your maximum bid? (how much of a savings vs. the $265 rate do you need to see to make changing hotels worthwhile)"Well, like anyone, I want the nicest hotel possible for the best possible price. I would LOVE to get a $150.00 rate like others who have recently won the Grand Hyatt or W on the same night (5/24). After taking a few days off from Priceline, I just tried every zone except Times Square from $145 up to $161 and didn't have any success. Any tips are greatly appreciated.
thereuare Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 I would LOVE to get a $150.00 rate like others...Since your bids were rejected, that rate is not currently available for your nite above.Did you bid all NYC zones most recently or just the midtown zones (if not all, exactly which zones did you include in your bidding)What is your current maximum bid?Did you reserve any of the Quickbook hotels above as a back-up? stl-samiam Posted April 28, 2008 Author Report Posted April 28, 2008 I bid all zones except Times Square. I did not reserve any back-up. My highest bid (for now) is $161 as I know there may be rooms available for that price.
thereuare Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 Based upon current rates i think it will take a little more than $161 to be successful at this time (as your rejected bids also confirm)If you've bid up to your maximum and included all the zones you're willing to stay in there's not much more you can do other than wait it out and try again every 24 hours (although a month ahead of your stay i think every 2-3 is sufficient)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Keep us updated and let us know how we can be of further help.
