BearX220 Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 4* rooms can still be had in London this spring for under USD$100...I wanted at least 3* accommodations for a May weekend (quick trip to attend a wedding). Started out bidding $85 for 3* in Kensington / Earls Court / Knightsbridge. Rejected, but PL countered offering $122 for a 3* in that zone.I turned down the counter, added Westminster, upped bid to $89 -- rejected.I added Bloomsbury / Marble Arch and upped bid to $90 -- rejected.I changed my checkout date from 5/19 Monday to 5/18 Sunday, left everything else intact -- rejected.I added Finsbury & Islington and upped bid to $95 -- accepted and upgraded to the 4* Hilton Islington, and was simultaneously offered the night of 5/18-5/19 at the same price. Thought about doing another bid for a Heathrow-area property for Sunday night 5/18 to facilitate Monday morning getaway, but decided I wouldn't come out more than $20 or $25 ahead... not worth the hassle of changing hotels Sunday evening. $95 is about GBP48, and the current cheapest advance-purchase Hilton website rate for this hotel, this May weekend, is GBP145 so I'm happy. I'm a semi-dedicated Hilton HHonors member, but the few points I'd earn booking this place through Hilton aren't worth the USD$600 extra. The cheapest official Hilton rate I found anywhere in London that weekend was at the Hilton Olympia, near Earls Court, at GBP87 / night.
Peter Pan Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 That's quiet a deal! Great job and that is a good hotel to stay in.
