are8 Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 I only wanted to be in very central paris because I will only be there one day for sightseeing. I was told that the champs elysees/opera quarter west was THE BEST location. I started bidding at 120, then used batignolles free rebid at 130 ( was offered a counter offer at 166). I closed the window and restarted and bid 140, used batignolles free rebid for 145. Closed window and offered 150, free rebid batignolles at 155 and was accepted.I noticed several other bidders got this same hotel for much less on this board, and I wonder why I had to bid so high for it???Also, I was surprised that priceline let me keep on rebidding the same location just by closing the window and restarting...is that normal???Anyway, the going rate on the website is like $280. Of course I used the PRICELINE link provided on BB :)
thereuare Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 Congratulations on your win!I was told that the champs elysees/opera quarter west was THE BEST location.I think this hotel is in the OQE-Les Halles zone, not the Champs Elysees-OQW zone... do you recall adding this zone to your bidding at all? (and perhaps that is why you were able to continue to bid)If any Paris 'experts' can confirm that this hotes is in the OQE zone, or correct me that it's actually in the OQW zone, please let us know. Thank you for sharing your winning bid with th board and for using our PRICELINE link to begin your bidding.Enjoy your stay. are8 Posted April 14, 2008 Author Report Posted April 14, 2008 Your right, I got confused as I was typing the post, it is in the OQE-Les Halles zone which is the area I was bidding in. Any thoughts why the going rate is so much higher than in the past?
thereuare Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 Rates are date specific and are likley higher for your dates than previously reported wins... and Spring time in paris is expensive. (other wins at lower bid amounts may have been at a slow time of year)There is a win for this property at $140 where the user reported 'traditional' rates were $225... given the $280/nite rate you indicated for this property, $155 seems 'inline' with the other win and still a very nice deal at $125 less than a hotel direct booking.Enjoy your stay.. and thanks for the clarification on the zone.
