Dannyrado Posted April 13, 2008 Report Posted April 13, 2008 WOW! What a find, congratulations on a simply astonishing website!I'm looking for a 4* hotel in NYC from 4th June to 7th June. Looking to pay UP TO $200, Ideally less than $170. Having had a look at the 4* hotels on priceline i think i prefer MTE+Grand central.Last time we went to NYC we stayed in the millenium broadway TS, in a suite, and to us (brits) it was very satisfactory. (Just giving you an idea of what is good to us.)So then, how shall i go about bidding? I don't quite understand the zone 1, 2, 3 etc, i've seen in other bidding suggestions. Also am i right in just bidding MTE?Dan.
Dannyrado Posted April 13, 2008 Author Report Posted April 13, 2008 Ok, just to say i now understand re-bidding. Still think i'd like to be in MTE.
Dannyrado Posted April 16, 2008 Author Report Posted April 16, 2008 Hi there,I've been trying a bidding strategy for 2 days now, no joy.To be honest all of the 3* properties in MTE, Times, Upper Mid, look more than good enough (with my strategy i go to about $180 for 3*).All of the 4* in the whole of manhattan look nice (apart from the sherraton, which i remember thinking i wouldn't like to stay there.)The final permutation on my strategy was MTE+UES+UWS+Brook+Times+Upper mid+LI+Downtown+MTS+MTW(even with the risk of getting sherraton) at 4*, so that's basically the whole city. I pushed my budget to $213, and still never got anything!Am i searching too early, is there an event on over these dates, etc, etc?Thinking of looking at renting an apartment instead, any suggestions/experiences?Dan.
thereuare Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 Personally i'm not a fan of apartment rentals as you're never really sure of the quality you will get, or the reliability factor, not to mention you may have trouble renting one for just 3 nites. How about the Gild Hall thru Quickbook for $222/nite (average)? This hotel is going thru a soft opening so some amenities(restaurant, room service, etc) are not available, but even with the limited services it's been getting excellent reviews. The hotel is located downtown but has a few subway lines within a few block walk for when you want to get to midtown. If this exceeds your budget and you're willing to split your stay, you could book the last two nites thru Quickbook for $189/nite average and then find alternative accomodations for the first nite. Please use our Quickbook link if you move forward with the above.Thoughts? PS- the above is cancellable, so you could book it and use as a back-up while you continue to try PRICELINE and HOTWIRE (of find an apartment if you go that route) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Dannyrado Posted April 19, 2008 Author Report Posted April 19, 2008 Well "great minds think alike" and all that... My back-up hotel is the gild hall, through Quickbook. I took your recommendation of Quickbook from another thread, so thankyou. I'm in at $666 + Tax for the gild hall, i think that's ok, but will keep trying with PRICELINE and HOTWIREDan
