It took a few days and a bunch of rebids to get this. I wanted to get the Novotel specifically, because it's near my relatives. I saw that it was showing up on discount hotel sites so I figured I was more likely to get this hotel than the two other alternatives (Radisson East and Westin Prince) that are three stars or higher. I knew I would have to accept my luck if I won either of these instead.

I used the two free bid zones of Toronto East and Scarborough Pickering, but I didn't have the patience to use the advanced technique except for the last night ... when I might as well have not bothered, because I won on my first rebid. My bidding started at $40, I think, and my last two bids were $60, which failed, and $65, which won.

Glad to hear you received the hotel you were hoping for. As a side note, there is often little correlation between the lowest retail price of hotel in the zone and the one which will accept your bid (assuming the prices are within 'reason' of each other)
