eagordon Posted April 12, 2008 Report Posted April 12, 2008 Can you advise on how to bid for a room in NYC? I bid unsuccesfully tonight as follows:1. MTE-4 star hotel $1302. MTW- 4 star hotel $1403. CPS-4 star hotel $145All were rejected and I gave up for the night. I really didn't want to bid on any other locations in NYC.Thanks for your guidance.EAG

eagordon Posted April 12, 2008 Author Report Posted April 12, 2008 Oops, sorry, I'm trying to book a room for one person for the nights of May 18 and May 19.Thanks
thereuare Posted April 13, 2008 Report Posted April 13, 2008 This is a two nite stay? (5/18-5/20)If so, spring is a very expensive time in NYC and i'm doubtful your bids above will be enough for a 4* property (if a one nite stay it may be a different story since Sunday nite is the slowest day of the week in NYC).What is your maximum budget for this stay? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. eagordon Posted April 13, 2008 Author Report Posted April 13, 2008 yes, it is a 2 night stay. My maximum is $200 per night, but I would like to do it for less if it is possible.
thereuare Posted April 13, 2008 Report Posted April 13, 2008 I'm assuming your $145 bid above included all three zones... if not post back before bidding as follows:At the 4* level you have four re-bid zones available. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* MTE and MTW and UM/CPS and re-bid zone1Bid $150 f rejected close browser and re-access priceline...Select 4* MTE and MTW and UM/CPS and re-bid zone2Bid $155, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline...Select 4* MTE and MTW and UM/CPS and re-bid zone3Bid $160, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline...Select 4* MTE and MTW and UM/CPS and re-bid zone4Bid $165, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline...Select 4* MTE and MTW and UM/CPS and re-bid zone1 and re-bid zone2...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline...Select 4* MTE and MTW and UM/CPS and re-bid zone1 and re-bid zone3...Bid $175, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline...Select 4* MTE and MTW and UM/CPS and re-bid zone1 and re-bid zone4...Bid $180, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline..Select 4* MTE and MTW and UM/CPS and re-bid zone2 and re-bid zone3...Bid $185, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline....Select 4* MTE and MTW and UM/CPS and re-bid zone2 and re-bid zone4...Bid $190, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline....Select 4* MTE and MTW and UM/CPS and re-bid zone3 and re-bid zone4...Bid $195, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline....Select 4* MTE and MTW and UM/CPS and re-bid zone1 and re-bid zone2 and re-bid zone3...Bid $200Any questions (especially if you're not familiar with re-bidding, please conifrm your zones with the board) feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. eagordon Posted April 13, 2008 Author Report Posted April 13, 2008 I did not bid all three zones at $145- I bid MTE 4* one time at $130, when that was unsuccessful, I moved on and I bid MTW 4* 1 time at $140 when that was unsuccessful, I moved on and I bid UM/CPS 4* 1 time at $145. Then I figured I didn't really know what I was doing so I sent an email to you. I'll await further instructions. Thanks
thereuare Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 OK, let's backtrack...As per Priceline Re-Bidding Explained, you have four re-bid zones at the 4* level, are you able to figure our your re-bid zones? eagordon Posted April 14, 2008 Author Report Posted April 14, 2008 I want to rebid on the following zones-MTE, MTW, and UM/CPS-I'm counting those as 3 zones for rebidding-are you counting UM/CPS as two zones and is that why you say "you have four re-bid zones at the 4* level?" I checked all of the zones I'm interested in (on priceline) using the method you suggest to see if they all have 4* hotels and they do. I have read your blurb on rebidding and think I understand it. I think I'm ready to bid again unless I missed something. Your advice is appreciated. Thanks so much!OK, let's backtrack...As per Priceline Re-Bidding Explained, you have four re-bid zones at the 4* level, are you able to figure our your re-bid zones?
eagordon Posted April 14, 2008 Author Report Posted April 14, 2008 o.k. I think I'm not understanding what you mean about re-bid zone 1, or rebid zone 2, or rebid zone 3 etc. I don't understand what those zones are? I was thinking that MTE was a zone and MTW was a zone etc etc. I think I'm making this more confusing then it is but I'm not getting that part of it.
eagordon Posted April 14, 2008 Author Report Posted April 14, 2008 o.k. I think I've got it. The 4 rebid zones I should add in one at a time are Long Island, Brooklyn, UES and UWS. Because they don't have any 4* hotels, I can add them, increase my $$ amount and rebid in the zones I want to stay plus the zone that doesn't have the 4* hotel (which is allowing me to rebid). Is this correct? Should I now proceed with the bidding strategy you gave me above? Thanks!
thereuare Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 Congratulations... you got it :)Just remember to check your re-bid zones before each bidding cycle to make sure that nothing has changed (ie- no hotels added or upgraded)Yes, you can now try the strategy above, substituting your re-bid zones for re-bid1, re-bid2, etc.Any questions feel free to ask. Please remember to start your bids with our PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links.Good luck and let us know how it goes.
